Noticed some people were asking for or about 480p capable CRT reference monitors so I thought I would contribute a list of all 480p monitors that I'm aware of. Most reference monitors do NOT support 480p and a majority of the supported ones should be on this list afaik

It's also worth noting that some of these CRT's require certain input cards to handle 480p YPbPr, RGB, etc. Unfortunately these cards can be outrageously expensive or hard to find. If you are considering a purchase make sure these cards are included or the CRT already has the desired connections by default such as YPbPr on the PVM 20L5-14L5.

Thoughts on how I could go about building a list of 480p content on my server? I have about 500 movies and I think at least half came from DVDs (not BR). Would like to build a list of them so I can see what's worth replacing.

But to answer the original question, no there's not. You'll even find games falsely indicating EDTV support on the back (I know I own a game that says it's 480p, but it's actually not, I think it's Tenchu: Shadow Assassins).

I for one has wanted a list of that sort for a long time. But there isn't and as Sean points out the Wii games is a mix of resolutions to my (and apparently some others) frustration. I do know that the Nintendo titles i own (Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid, Punch Out and New Super Mario Bros.) all are 480P. And why we in Europe doesn't get 480P resolution on our VC games is beyond me.

Crash of the Titans (PAL) doesnt support 480i, defaults to 576i. Have not tried 480p yet. As I think about it I get a bit curious as it plays rather poorly in 576i. Not many Wii (Disc and WiiWare) games play good at that rate. VC games looks and feel like the old days through my CRT. Unfortunatly my flatscreen sucks at 576i but is ok:ish on any 480 res. Anybody tried MK on 576i? Totally unplayable. How is it that PAL Wii defaults to 576i when it does it so bad??? Actually... fiddelin with different resolutions and cables and monitors reminds me of my Atari STe RIP. Nintendo really need to adress this resolution/cable/interlace/progressive mess.

what leads you to believe muramasa is 480i? i tried it out with the wii set to both 480i and 480p through component cables and saw a huge difference between the two settings. if it's not 480p then i'm surprised

The fact that Rising Star said it was in their Podcast interview -- I'm referring to the PAL version, not the North American release. Though having just checked the box and seeing EDTV (480p) compatible, it looks like I''m wrong. Maybe they were talking about Fragile and I'm just mis-remembering!

When 480p30 is broadcast on air, it is frame doubled then interlaced to 480i60. In case of 480p24, it is processed using the 3:2 pulldown technique to 480i60. In both cases the spatial resolution doesn't change, but the conversion to a interlaced format allows a direct digital to analog conversion for eventual broadcast on the analog television network.

These are the Wii games that are known not to support 480p/progressive scan/EDTV as well as those that lack proper wide-screen and PAL60. They will look awful on an HDTV and will be completely incompatible with progressive scan only displays like PC monitors. It shows complete lack of care on the behalf of the developer. When told that many Wii games weren't going to have progressive scan and wide-screen a Wii developer commented: "Lame. It's not hard.".

In an interview with the developers of trauma centre they said they were thinking about having widescreen but due to the nature of the game it would have altered levels slightly and they would have to sort of remake the whole game for widescreen. So i can see why that wasn't implementated,
Why ravin rbbids has to 480p is very odd though considering they said they put most of there resources into making the wii version

Save ChangesCancelFull EditIt's going to be shit and you jolly well know it. Link to this post: Modplan Man 19.11.2006#5Luckily IGN stated a while back they were taking a tough stnce on this, and said they'd do their best to bitch and whine to developers to put in 480p and widescreen.( Edited on 19.11.2006 16:10 by Amazingjanet )

Save ChangesCancelFull EditIt's going to be shit and you jolly well know it. Link to this post: Megadanxzero 19.11.2006#13I guess we can always hope that the European versions will get 480p since they have a bit of extra time with them...

I hate it when game manuals lie, worms 3D said it could use 2-4 controllers simultaneously but it dosn't you have to hotswap (which really bugs me) checked the website and it was just listed as an error.

Nintendo should/are likely to make it a requirement that devs use widescreen or make the games 480p compatible. MS and Sony may have gone a tad overboard in the sense of making it necessary with their respective consoles, but if it can do it (HD, Pro Scan), why not use it?

Could be all sorts of reasons, printing error, perhaps the game developers said that the game would have 480p and the guys making the manual put it in, then suddenly they ran out of time, perhaps it automatically switches to 480p (the wii has built in settings so you dont have to change every game individually, just set it up in the main options) or the options menu is too well hidden.....

there are some games that give problems, but on the right dashboard they can be patched. @Rocky5 has a script that can fix as far as I know most games. I also noticed that on some dashboards these games run fine, I can recollect that in EvoX games like JSFR ran fine on 480p, while they were giving issues in Unleash and XBMC4gamers. Here is some more info on the games with problems

In an effort to enhance the knowledge of the video-making community, I have compiled a list of all true 16:9 video resolutions, including their associated standard when applicable, as well as when the resolution is divisible by 8, which is useful for limited video encoders. The table goes up to 1080p and includes common resolutions like that of a typical 27 inch 16:9 computer monitor and Super Hi-Vision.

Well, the only reason I added the 88 highlights is because back when I made this list, the ffmpeg-based GUI encoder I was using would only work with resolutions that were multiples of 8, perhaps an artifact of H.261 having fixed size 88 transform blocks, or an attempt at following common resolutions:
_are_the_most_common_screen_resolutions/

Below is a list of all 16:9 resolutions up to the highest standard established so far, 16K UHD. This is incredibly useful when video editing. True 16:9 resolutions are only the ones that equal 1.77:1, where there is an infinite number of 7s.

The list also shows which resolutions are divisible by 8, which is essential for optimizing the videos. Resolutions not divisible by 8 can cause errors like macro blocking and a green bar on the side of a video.

Not only does it support a native resolution of 800 x 480, but it also supports various other resolutions including 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 576i, 480p, and 480i via HDMI input. The 50,000-hour estimated LED projector lamp life ensures longevity, with the lamp lasting for approximately 22.8 years of 6-hour daily usage or 5.7 years of continuous 24-hour usage.

So, in what seems to be one of the rarer issues on launch day, my Switch refuses to spit anything besides 480p to my 1080p monitor. For whatever reason the Switch is only detecting it as 480. So far the few other people I've found reporting this have nothing consistent in common. Anyone else getting this and found a solution of any kind?

I'm posting here to receive updates on the thread, I have the same problem.

The weird thing is I tried on a smaller screen, from the same brand configured with the same exact settings and it worked in 1080p, I can't figure out why it doesn't work on my more recent screen. My Wii U and all other devices have a 1080p resolution on the screen but the switch is stuck in 480p.

I had the exact same problem last night, but got it working this morning: I unplugged the dock's power from the outlet for a bit (maybe 5-8 minutes) and then plugged it back in with the Switch already docked (but in sleep mode). Once I brought it out of sleep mode, it was 1080p instead of 480p on my HDTV.

UPDATE: I also had to change the input to make it work. I tried my method last night and still was stuck with the video being 480p. I did the flow described above, but also changed the input just before powering on the console.

Eleven, thank you for getting back to me. I followed the instructions and got to the "List All Modes" setting, and 1680x1050 was indeed available, so I chose it from the list and applied it. The monitor re-set itself, and the" Display Resolution" drop down actually showed it had changed from 800x600 to 1680x1050. However, the screen was still on 800x600 when it came back on. It was up for about ten seconds, then the monitor shut down for a 2nd time. I went back to check the "List of Valid Modes", and noticed they were all now missing, except 640x480 and 800x600. I tried to switch it back to 800x600 to at least get the monitor back on, but now the "apply" button on the "adapter tab" is greyed out, and I cannot apply any of the remaining valid modes from the valid modes list. The monitor will not come back on now. Also, I just can't figure out how to upload the screenshots I took to add to this. So if you could show me how to do that, I'll upload them immediately. Thanks!
