Hi,
I am sending this message from PFLAG National along for you to see.
---
Thousands of people across the country will come together November 20 to observe Transgender Day of Remembrance, an international day that commemorates victims who have suffered from hate crimes based on gender identity and/or expression, while bringing attention to the history, experiences and issues affecting transgender people.
One of the best ways we can show support for transgender people is to begin at the foundation for our society – education – by ensuring that transgender students are protected from bullying and harassment in school.
According to the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network’s 2005 National School Climate Survey, 93 percent of transgender students reported verbal harassment based on their sexual orientation, gender or gender identity/expression, 54 percent reported physical harassment based on at least one of the characteristics and 33 percent reported assault.
Lets make sure that there are protections for transgender students.. To learn more about transgender issues and Transgender Day of Remembrance, please visit GLSEN’s online resources at www.glsen.org and PFLAG’s Transgender Network (TNET) at www.pflag.org/tnet.html.
Sincerely,
Merlyn Risser
