All of us Stonewallers are scattered around Japan. Some of us live in
big, to decent sized cities, yet still are having trouble finding the
rumored local gay bar. Others of us are right smack in the middle of
rice paddies for as far as the eye can see.

So, what are some things that we can do to meet more of the
community?

1) COME TO THE EVENTS THAT PEOPLE POST ON THIS GROUP.
As of now, we have 2 consecutive weekends of people partying it
up in Osaka. Not only that, there is a pride parade in Sapporo on the
3 day holiday coming up. The beginning of the year is filled with busy
schedules, everyone going to welcome parties, getting accustomed to
the newness of your area, whether you're a newbie or a sempai.

I would certainly have made my way to Osaka for the Sept.
13th-15th long weekend. But, there is a Music Jam camping trip in
Hakuba, Nagano, which some of the ladies in Tokyo have planned. There
are about 10-15 of us going, and if you'd like to join us in the
camping and music fun, feel free to email me, and I'll give you more
details. Here is the link to the event we will be attending.
http://www.evergreen-hakuba.com/events/hiaq.html

So summer is coming to an end, and all the parties and get-togethers
will also start to wind down. Autumn and Winter is a great time to
branch out of your area, and travel to meet some fellow Stonewallers.

Some events you DONT want to miss......."OSAKA PRIDE (sometime in late
oct.) and SKIING in NAGANO (feb)

2) INTRODUCE YOURSELF
It may seem as if nobody is reading or caring about this Group
List considering how only a handful of people have come out of the
woodwork and introduced themselves.

However, that's not true. There are alot of people on this list,
who live all around Japan. This Group is a great opportunity to find
friends in other parts of Japan, who can show you around and introduce
you to people around their area.

Come on, we are always telling our students はずかしがらないで下さい。 DONT BE
SHY....Let'S follow our own advice. Come on, show us you're out
there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3) GO TO TOKYO!!!!!!
As the capital of the country, it is also the capital of the gay
scene. And it isn't only the NICHOME district. (BY THE WAY, GO TO
NICHOME!!!!!)

THere is always a crowd out on Saturday night, and people are friendly
and you can quickly become buddies with someone, and go out, find bars
and party.

AS for the lady scene, there are nice bars (Motel, Kinswomen, Tamago)
that are frequented by both Japanese ladies and Gaijin. Everyone raves
about Arty Farty, but i personally find that place annoying.

Every month, on a Saturday, GIRLFRIEND comes to town. It is a big
party of girls (J and G) in Shinjuku. Not only that, there is a nice
bar in SHibuya (5 mins from the station) called Minx. Usually it is a
Japanese girl bar, except on Wednesdays, when it turns into CHESTNUT
and SQUIRREL, ""kuri to risu" in Japanese (get it?) which is when all
the Tokyo, Saitama, neighborhood ladies, come and enjoy the humpday:)

4) SUBMIT TO AND READ BRIX......

Brix is a newsletter that serves several purposes. It gives us a space
to submit creative writing, photography, reviews, upcoming events, and
more!!!!!!!

THe next deadline to turn in any articles, pictures, short stories,
poetry, bar/restaurant reviews, et cetera is SEPT. 26th. Are there any
writers out there who want to be in charge of a certain area. Please
email me if you're interested. You can submit these things to my email
address at the bottom of this email.

Hope to meet you all soon,

XOXO,
TOBY

I've never heard of Brix! How do I submit to and read it?

I'd love to come to the Osaka night outs, but Osaka is really far from
where I live and also kind of expensive. But thanks for letting us
know about the Osaka Pride sometime next month. I just might be able
to make that!

Hello Lilly,

Thank you for responding and asking more questions about the BRIX
journal.
In previous years, Danielle was in charge of it, and used to send it
to us in the mail. There wasn't an online version or PDF file.

In 2007, she left, and I took charge, and tried to put it online in
the form of a blog,
but the amount of submissions were very small. (1 submission)---And I
kind of gave up on the project. (Lame, i know....but, non-
participation is so spirit-crushing)

So this year, Jon and Fiona suggested that we try again..........this
time making it a simple PDF file that we can send out via email, and
upload onto this google
group.

In the past, BRIX mostly contained poetry and short stories written by
Stonewall members. Considering so much of the information in these old
files are
out of date, I think it would be nice to re-review venues and events.
We can also use BRIX as an up-coming events guide and picture forum. I
believe that we MUST
have alot of creative people in our group, so I hope you, Lilly, and
others will jump on board with me and let's create something nice.

By the way, what area would you be interested in writing about?
Creative writing? Venue reviews? Movies and Media? Politics?
The BRIX has unlimited possibilities in subject matter, and format, so
please don't be shy to submit your work.

As for the OSAKA PRIDE, here is the preliminary website...it should
get updated as the event approaches. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19.....Let's plan
ahead folks, rent rooms in the same hotel, and party it up proper! By
the way, I'd also like you to know that Osaka has some pretty AMAZING
love hotels....oh course, people need to be partnered to go into them,
but you ought to try it if you happen to have a significant other at
the moment. LaBlanche, for example, has big hot-tubs, karaoke, and
free porn in every room. Here is the website for PRIDE......

Okay, enjoy your day Lilly, and others

xoxo,
toby s.

Hello! I haven't written anything on the group yet, but I thought
this was a good occasion to do so. For those of you who are new this
year and came with Group A, I was the Asian girl on the panel. I live
in Saitama (about an hour north of Tokyo), so if you feel like
following Toby's advice (which I totally think you should do) and need
a place to crash, I'm happy to host (just ask in advance).

On that note, Girlfriend is on September 27th this month, so if you're
thinking of coming to Tokyo, let me know!

Krystle,

Hey lady, thanks a bunch for introducing yourself and giving info
about this next upcoming Girlfriend. So you live in Saitama, and did
the Tokyo Orientation, did you? Have I met you before? Were you
friends with sweet Liz C. and Laura G. who both lived/live in the
Saitama area? And, do you go to CandS on Wednesdays? You're close
enough to do it....desho.

Ummm, also, I thought that maybe I should give more information about
the Lesbo Camping Extravaganza that is happening next long weekend,
Sept 13th-15th. I just got an email explaining the details tonight. It
will be at Hakuba Auto Camping site which will also be holding the
Music Jam festival where our friends' band, SemiOn will take main
stage. The entrance fee to the festival is 3000.

Tents and sleeping bags are available to rent at the site, so you can
take the train to Hakuba station, in Nagano. There will be a few of
us, including me, with cars bringing camping chillout supplies, food,
guitar, et cetera. If the site is far from the station, we can arrange
a pick-up time. This camping site also has alot of sporty things to
do.....Here is the breakdown of cost and info if anyone is interested
in joining us. There is an onsen close by.

Onto another topic of BRIX........Maybe people can write and suggest
topics they are interested in writing about, in order to give others
an idea of the types of things we'll be hearing about, and spurring
more ideas from others. For example, this Saturday....my friend, James
and I will be heading out to Hamamatsu in order to research the four
bars listed on the Stonewall Guide. We will be taking photos, drawing
maps, and getting info so that I can write a review about it. Also, I
plan on reviewing the new collection of short stories that just came
out last month called "SPARKLING RAIN: And other fiction from Japan of
women who love women". Lastly, I'm thinking to write a personal
account/opinion piece about the experience of coming out to my local
Japanese friends in my small, inaka town.

LASTLY, Gracie in Yamanashi is the sexy librarian. What this means, is
that she has a collection of books, movies and magazines that is
available to be lent out to Stonewall members. She wrote about it a
month or so ago. But, there's lots of stuff in there that can be
reviewed for BRIX in order to give the rest of us an idea of what we
have in there, and what is GOOD.

Alright kiddies, hope this email finds all of you well.
Woohoo, tomorrow is FRIDAY, exclamation point.

Toby -

Good call on reviving the Brix publcation. Please feel free to print
those old poems I sent you (aka that "one submission back in 2007"
mentioned).

The Nagano weekend sounds soooo fantastic. I wish I could go. But, I
have made commitments to volunteer at a LGBT non-profit organisation
called "Occur" in Tokyo as a English conversation instructor.
Actually, now that I think of it, maybe I could write about this group
(which is actually the only official LGBT non-profit organization in
Japan) and all the good things they do for the next addition of Brix.

Oh, and yes, I am the lesbian librarian - so please do email me if
you'd like to get a list of what I got piled up in my apartment (and
maybe even write a review of one of the titles for Brix!).

cheers
grace
