Okay ladies and gentlemen --

We are here to present to you an idea for the first, non-Tokyo
Orientation night out/event!

Now, it's simple... and regionally biased (our apologies to the
extreme north and south). An Osaka Night Out in the gay-lands. Doesn't
really involve much, to be honest. A bunch of Stonewallers, going out
together, having fun. Some of you have probably been to Osaka, while
some of you haven't. That means, we can stick together, break off,
whatever. What it does though is give us the opportunity to congregate
at least briefly and get to know each other a little better!

So, the idea:

Osaka Night Out
Date: Saturday, Sept. 6th
Time: 7:00PM to whenever you can crawl back to a train or hostel or
love hotel. :D
Place: Um... Osaka. Doyama. Maybe even Shinsaibashi and/or Ame-mura.
The Gaylands, as I like to call them. Whatever floats your boats,
guys.

Two notes:

Dinner: We can and would love to do a group dinner for anyone who
might be there. What that means though is RESERVATIONS. haha. yeah.
So, if you're interested in doing a dinner with Fi and I, and some
other Stonewallers, let me know!

Global Kiss: Sept. 6th is the first weekend/Saturday of the month,
meaning that Explosion, one of the gay clubs, will be holding their
monthly event, Global Kiss. Usually a decently sized party/event, it's
lady-friendly and plays an overwhelming amount of techno. Which is to
be expected.

So, everyone --

Thoughts? Seem lovely to you? It does to us! Post here, or mail to
stonewallja...@gmail.com. Thanks!

Jon and Fi

PS. Likewise, to the various regions of Japan -- we would like for you
too to have something to go to as a first regional Stonewall event. If
any of you have any great ideas, or places for a good gay night out,
please let us know. ^_^

That sounds like lotsa fun! I've always wanted to visit Osaka. One
suggestion to make it easier and cheaper for distant JETs (which may
be too much of a pain in the butt) would be to get someone who can
easily scout the area make recommendations on reasonably priced and
conveniently placed hostels/hotels. Another idea would be to start a
thread suggesting people arrange to split a room if they want. (New
JET, so I've no idea what the attendance of stonewall events is like)

Here is a link for, what I believe to be, the cheapest hotel in Osaka.
I stayed there with a bunch of friends for the Rainbow Parade last
November and it was totally fine. It was easy to walk to it from clubs
and what not.

Thanks for the recommendation, Grace.
Another question popped into mind as I was looking at my schedule. Why
isn't this the following weekend when respect for the elderly day is
(a national holiday so I think everyone should have it off?) I think
far away people like me would be a lot more prone to go if they could
make a weekend of it. I was trying to see if I could stay an extra day
to kind of justify the insane travel cost (since I really want to see
Osaka anyway) but travel from my extremely southern island to Osaka is
too lengthy to make a day of Sunday and still be back for work Monday.
Anyway, if there's a reason it can't be that weekend that's fine, just
thought I'd ask. :)

Joe !

Very good point.
Our two main reasons why we decided on the first Saturday of the
month--

1. Generally, it's a pretty big weekend in the gay district anyway,
which usually means more and better turn-out.
2. We were concerned about the next weekend because of AJET events.
Many AJETs will be planning long weekends, such as trips to Fuji,
Tokyo, etc... to which many Stonewallers will probably want to go to.

Now, we realize/d that it would be difficult for people from the far
reaches of lovely Japan-land to be able to make this event, and that
some/many would not be able to come. Though this may be the case, we
do plan on having more Osaka/Kobe events on more 'prudent', long
weekends, so that people from further out will be able to come and
experience one of Japanese largest and incredibly [modern] cultural
cities! That, and play hard. haha.

Plus, aside from here, we've posted the information on a number of
other forums (including facebook **Stonewall Japan** group, and an
event) -- so we're quite hesitant to change the date and time now,
when many people have gotten the info already.

Is any one else going to be in Osaka Friday night?I'm a new
JET and have never been there (I also only have the internet in my off
ice so I can't do much research on the nightlife in Osaka without raisi
ng my Japanese colleagues eyebrows) and I love to meet up with people t
here.

Also, for the dinner reservation, do I send off an email to stonewallja
pan or is the facebook thing enough?

Hey,

is there any estimate of how many people are planning to come out for
this event? I'm hoping that the facebook confirmed list isn't an
accurate picture and that many of you fence sitters (well, I'm one of
them actually) in the no reply or maybe categories are actually going
to come out for this. It would be a shame to make the hike out to
Osaka and not get to meet many of you charming kids.
