All,
I had the pleasure of attending the Ben Folds concert in Morristown yesterday evening; just him and his piano. I hadn’t heard a lot of his solo music but was a fan of the "Ben Folds 5” back when they were popular. I was amazed at his ability to use his piano almost as this single instrument was an entire symphony. The second half of the concert after intermission he had fans write requests on paper and throw or fly them to the stage and he picked up a bunch and played all of them, his songs or others. It was amazing!
Anyway, he apparently has a tradition of composing and playing songs live, one is an original song by this name after someone shouted it out during a live album performance over a decade ago.
Below are just a few YouTube recordings of this song that I think my fellow orchestra members would enjoy. They’re a bit on the longer side, but seeing and hearing the process and how he gets people to play along is really quite remarkable and entertaining.
