To me the main thing here seems to be balancing between characters who
have and do not have magical item crafting feats - we don't want
either to have a huge advantage over the other. At the same time it
is important to realize that crafters have spent valuable feat slots
to acquire their abilities.
So how do we handle it if someone wants a crafter to make them a Hat
of Disguise? The Hat cost 1800gp, to make it costs the crafter 900gp
and 72xp - he also has to have the Disguise Self spell which may
entail having to learn a new spell. It also costs the crafter two
days in each of which he must spend 8 hours on the item, he could
potentially adventure on these days to if he could work it out time
wise.
Do we simply allow the crafter to pocket 900gp? I am not sure we
should not, but I worry about crafters becoming richer than other PCs,
especially if having lower XP is "rewarded" since it's loss becomes
less of a problem.
The biggest constraint on this might well be time, but the idea that
every adventure takes place the next day is to my mind deeply
irritating and unrealistic.
Thoughts?
Not all adventures are like that, that day's ogre killing session was
part of an adventure not an adventure in itself. Therefore it makes
sense to not delay too long before finishing the adventure. I am sure
there will be a more reasonable time interval betwen seperate
adventures.
After each game in the wrap up forum that gets created just state what
you want to craft during your down time and I will allow it 90% of the
time. This case though is different a group of adventurers has been
lost to the city, time is of the essence if you are to recover them.
This rather worries me, as a ranger who plans on having an animal
companion (maybe two), a mule, and plans on being a crafter, I am
feeling rather screwed. The mules purpose was to help me bring back
supplies to the city, or for myself. I mean I think the stables would
allow me to keep my Mule their if I(zeke) start bringing them stuff,
or paying them off. I am just hoping the sum of what they ask for
isn't overly expensive.
