Avalara vs AccurateTax?

Stoneedge implementation of taxjar is broken in many ways. As a result we may need to look for a new provider...

Can you elaborate on what is broken in terms of the TJ integration?

Sure thing...

1-Cancelled orders do not send a corresponding order cancellation back to taxjar. There should be an offsetting negative sales tax amount posted up at taxjar

2-When you create an RMA (not process a return), a negative transaction is sent up to taxjar. This should not be done until the return is actually received back. A high percentage of customers set up a return, but never send back a product.

3-Our yahoo store orders are sent to taxjar as Marketplace and as a result are not included in taxjar reports (Kevin has said this can be modified in the code)

4-We have taxjar set up for manual orders and when set up for both the yahoo cart orders and manual orders we received several error messages. Kevin had to put some custom code in to let us get past those errors.

#1 on the list is the biggest issue as you will be paying sales tax on cancelled orders. #2 is just incorrect as you shouldn't be posting a credit for a return that you haven't actually received yet.

I actually like taxjar quite a bit. We had Barney actually create us a manual report that we could upload to taxjar directly instead of using the built in Ordermanager/Taxjar integration. However with the new system the sales tax rate is not visible and in the table anymore.

That’s not good.  We are still on an old version of SE and using a manual report with TaxJar (similar to the old process you describe). 

 

• Can the sending of transactions be disabled in the latest version of SE? 
• Also, why does the report no longer work?  What do you mean by “the sales tax rate is not visible and in the table anymore.” ?  Does the “Sales Tax from History” report no longer work at all (this is what our manual upload file is based upon.

Following up to an old post here... but to update everyone on the Sales Tax situation.  There were many known issues with the sales tax system including those items which you mentioend above.  Too the best of my knowledge all known issues with TaxJar, Avalara, and AccurateTax and the Sales Tax system at large have been resolved in 7.731 which is available now for download.
