P.S.  I am using the Mandarin Parent Google distribution list as well as last year's distribution lists (from room 3 & 7) until the new contact lists have been created and room parents identified.  Please forward to other parents if you have other distribution lists at your disposal.  Thanks!

Dear Stonebrae Parents,
On behalf of the Multicultural Education Research Center (MERC), we
are delighted to announce that a Chinese language and culture
enrichment program will be taking place at Stonebrae Elementary School
on Saturdays, beginning September 8, 2012.
MERC was established as a nonprofit organization in 1995.  For the
past 17 years, MERC has dedicated to:

Teach Mandarin Chinese to school-aged students from 5 to 18 years
old. The long and short-term enrichment programs are offered on
Saturday mornings. The curriculum is designed to be engaging for
students to develop Chinese language skills in listening, speaking,
reading, and writing.

Cultivate children’s appreciation of different cultures. A variety
of classes are designed to help students to learn Chinese culture and
gain exposure to other culture groups as well. The current culture
classes include Chinese Calligraphy and Brush Painting, Abacus,
Chinese Yo Yo, Drawing, Beginning Animation, Performing Arts, and
Conversational Mandarin.

Provide adults life-long learning opportunities. MERC parents from
the Adult Art Class have showcased their artwork in many community art
events and won high remarks. A new 5-week Adult Conversational
Mandarin Class will be offered this year.

Support community events with presentations of Chinese culture and
customs to increase understanding and appreciation of diversity in the
community.

We are excited to be hosted by Stonebrae Elementary School in the new
school year. Stonebrae offers a unique “Mandarin Dual Language
Immersion Program” from Monday through Friday.  Attending the above
mentioned MERC enrichment program on Saturdays, the students and
parents will enjoy a comprehensive learning experience in Chinese
language and culture. Please see the attachment for the course list
and registration.

MERC Info Night:  In order to help parents and students become
familiar with MERC’s enrichment program, a “MERC Info Night” will be
scheduled on Wednesday, 9/5/12, at 6:30 pm, in the Multipurpose Room.
Please click on the link below and reserve a space. We look forward to
seeing you there.
