Just off the Bay Area public school Chinese curriculum boom, Hayward Unified School District (HUSD) Dandong Bo Primary (Stonebrae Elementary School) has been quietly in the East Bay to establish the foundation of Chinese immersion program, the school district and promised Chinese courses will be extended to high school for the Aramaic Daxian immersion programs wishing to study Chinese schoolchildren, establish a complete learning program.
Dandong Bo Primary School Noldin (Lisa Nolting) said that the children attend Chinese immersion programs, classroom instruction in English and the proportion of 50% each.Professor simplified Chinese teacher first, and then introduced into the middle and high school complex characters; textbooks and teaching emphasis on visual and motion gestures, so that students easily learn.
Currently Dandong Bo Total 740 elementary students to participate in Chinese immersion program from kindergarten through fifth grade students have eight classes, 224 students, of which only 22 students native language is Chinese.School youth counseling director Chen Julin noted that although the majority of parents do not understand Chinese, is still active and the teacher with the 2012 school's academic performance index was 799, math test Geng Shibi county average is still high 100 points.
Recalls the founding process Noldin mentioned, the school spent a year, holding community meetings and conduct survey and found that parents generally want to set up a second foreign language courses.In view of the Hayward school district has Spanish immersion programs, Dandong Bo primary school since 2007, opened Chinese courses.Alameda County as "the only two" public Chinese immersion elementary school (another of Fremont Azevada Elementary), the National Chinese immersion programs to schools and worked out a successful model.
Alameda County Board of Education Chinese courses Commissioner Murayama (Deborah Murayama) explained that there is now Dandong Bo primary school transcripts in English, Chinese Exhibition held each spring, with calligraphy, martial arts and other after-school activities, cross Chinese Lunar penpals and participate in San Francisco New Year Parade, are steeped in China in order to enable students to better culture.
SOPA year students received two oral tests, the school district has plans Bret Harte Middle School in Hayward and Hayward High School increased Chinese courses as convergence, the goal is for students to graduate, through Chinese AP (Advanced Placement) tests.
