Hi...and welcome to the Stonebrae family! My name is Maryann Lobo and both my daugher and son are in in the Mandarin Imersion Program. My daughter is in the 4th grade and my son is in the 2nd grade. You will love the teachers and parents and Stonebrae. Do you know who is your child's teacher?
I am also the Room Parent Coordinator for the PTA. We do have a PTA website (
www.stonebraepta.org) which has a calendar of events and a link to our Facebook Page ( you do not have to be a PTA member to attend events/activities - it is open to everyone). In addtion, Stonebrae has a great program for dads and fatherfigures (uncles, grandfathers, etc) called the Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students). The Watch DOGS host a variety of events for the school including bowling and movie night. Their website is
http://stonebraewatchdogs.shutterfly.com . I believe you can access the site directly; however, if you need to be a "member" to view the website, please let me know and I will talk to Andy Wong about adding you on (moms can be on the site too).
Also, if you would like to meet some of the parents and get to know the families, please come by the Stonebrae PTA Ice Cream Social this this Thursday, September 26th at 6:00pm at the kindergarten play yard. I will be there along with Andy (our "Top Dog"). I know some kindergarten families who will be there on Thursday. So if you do come, please ask for me (I will most likely be working the used book sale). I can introduce you to some of the families and your son/daughter can meet some of the other kindergartners and check out the Kindergarten play area.
As far as tutoring programs, I know some parents who have their children in an afterschool tutoring program in Castro Valley...I can have them speak to you. There is also tutors availabe through Cal State East Bay University's Teacher Education Program (I can get you the contact information if you would like).
Sports programs at Stonebrae usually are for students in the 4th - 6th grades. However, there are many local independent leagues (my son is in Little League and my daughter is in CYO volleyball) and we also have a great recreation agency called HARD (Hayward Area Recreation District) that offers a lot of sprots programs for the 4-6 year old range. You can visit them on line at
www.haywardrec.org. In previous years, the Mandarin Imersion Program has offered after school programs such as caligraphy, judo, fan dance, etc - but this depends on funding so we are not sure what will be offered this year.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. My direct e-mail is
mcl...@comcast.net or you can call me at
510-538-1543. Again, welcome to Stonebrae!
