Greetings from Thrissur, Kerala !
We are happy to inform you that we celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the Save Western Ghat March (SWGM) on November 1st 2012 at Thrissur. SWGM was organised in Nov. 1, 1987 to March 10, 1988 by various organisations from all over India. There were two marches, one from Kanyakumari to Panaji and the other from Navappur in Gujarat to Panaji, simultaneously. Both marches traversed by Western Ghats through six states documenting the issues and campaigning against environmental destruction. It brought together thousands of peoples and hundreds of organisations in western ghats region to work on environment.

The Silver Jubilee programme will be in three sessions. The first session, inaugurated by Sri Chandi Prasad Bhatt will be a get together and an experience sharing one by the Marchers. Sri A Mohan Kumar the team leader of the southern march (from Kanaykumari to Goa) will do the introduction. And Dr. S Sankar will preside the session.
We have planned a scientific session during post noon where the Conservation and Development of the Western Ghats will be the focus of the same. Dr. V S Vijayan, former Chairperson of Kerala Stae Biodiversity Board and member of Gadgil Committee, Dr A Latha of River Research Centre, Thrissur and Dr. T V Sajeev of Kerala Forest Research Institute, Peechi, Kerala will present on the Gadgil Committee report on Western Ghats. V T Balaram M L A will be present to respond to the same.
There will be an informal get together of Marchers on the previous eve at KFRI International Guest House, Peechi, Thrissur.
