I’ve taken vast amounts of photos with my E-P1 before it was stolen, but this software only shows five photos.

Why those particular five? Why none before, and why none after? It
makes the software virtually useless.

If it doesn’t work like it is because it can’t actually find the huge
amounts of photos out there that I’ve already taken, would it be
useful to be able to say what the last photo I have on it was called?
The last photo I have was from two days before it got stolen, and was
numbered P5118412 — so anything a bit after that was on the SD card
inside and shot by me during the day, on the 13th May 2010, the day it
was stolen in the evening. Anything shot the day after that was not
shot by me. Does that help?

Hi Ian,

Sorry for the delay in replying.

The fact that it found 5 is proof that it does work. However, the
program does not have full access to the photos on sites (currently
flickr only) and so can only trawl them slowly. SCF was only scanning
flickr for about a week before I had to take it down (I was trawling
too quickly). It's pretty lucky that it found 5 of your photos in that
week.

I've fixed the code and SCF is now back scanning flickr so more photos
taken with your camera may still get found in the future.

I've got plenty more features coming soon such as the ability to enter
the date your camera was stolen.

Cheers,
Matt

Sounds excellent — cheers. PS - can it look for lens serial numbers
just as easily?

Hi Matt,

               My camera was stolen in Portugal a few months ago and you said the same thing. Your software was unable to trawl even 1 week after i did a paid subscription. You asked me my flickr id and after that, it discovered whatever photos i uploaded.
What is really going on?

regards,
M.B

@IKT
Yes, it can also search for lens serial numbers, but this is less effective as this depends on the correct lens model and camera model combination. Body serial numbers are easier to track. Searching by lens serial number is a feature only available to pro members.

@Patricia,
We restrict the number of results you see for free to 5, but pro members get unlimited results (amongst other features). The fact you still only have 5 results is just a coincidence.

@mbkv
The reason you are seeing your own uploads appear quickly is probably because you have the Chrome plugin installed which is contributing to the search effort. The more people we can get to install the plugin the better it is for everyone! https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stolen-camera-finder/hfhlngbcdalpjiejaenfchpcajdmpeom

Thanks all,
Matt
