Hi Everyone,
what is happening about the Sainsbury's application and us writing letters to the planning dept...?
I just received this email about Church St bookshop...Does anyone know when the deadline is for letters..?
Suzy

Dear all,

Most of you probably know that my dad has a second hand book shop on Church Street in Stoke Newington. It's called Church Street Bookshop and has been there a couple of decades. My dad has had some form of second book business on Church st for about 30 years now.

Very recently a planning application has been made by agents acting for the site owners to redevelop the site where my dad's shop is. This will also effect the car repair garage (also been there yonks) and the clothes shop Casino as well as the (at the moment) vacant shop which are next door to my dad's.

The proposal is to replace these businesses with a large restaurant.

It will mean that my dad and the other businesses will be given notice and will have to close up.

Planning permission by Hackney Council is required before this can go ahead and it has not yet been given. Before a decision is made you can comment or object to the proposal by contacting the Council.

It would be really great, and much appreciated, if you could take some time to comment on this proposal and lodge any objections you have. It would really help to prevent planning permission being granted.

I think it would be helpful if objections were made as to firstly whether Church st does needs another restaurant (which the application proposes) and secondly as to the effect that the loss of a bookshop and other independent businesses will have on the character of the area and the needs of the community who use the area.

The application also proposes that another resturant would help attract more trade/visitors to the street. Comments could also mention the pull that the vintage clothes shops, records shops and bookshops have.

The deadline though is 13 August 2012.

Objections can besubmitted online. It is application no 2012/1699. You can search using this  no at:
http://apps.hackney.gov.uk/servapps/Northgate/PlanningExplorer/generalsearch.aspx

This is where you comment: http://apps.hackney.gov.uk/servapps/Northgate/PlanningExplorer/PLComments.aspx?pk=173881

You can follow this link for access to the planning and retail impact statement and other documents: http://idox.hackney.gov.uk/WAM/showCaseFile.do?action=show&appType=Planning&appNumber=2012/1699

(There is a lot of stuff in the application which I don’t agree with, including that the area would benefit from another place to eat or that the current occupiers are not viable options, and I don’t think its a fair representation or description.)

Also, please forward this on to any friends or family who you think would be concerned by this proposal.

Thanks a lot for having a look at this. I really think that if people object it can make a big difference to the decision the council make. If anyone has any ideas which might help or want to discuss what else could be done, please get in touch.

Best,

Daniel

Hi Jamie

I've found some details of previous planning applications neighbouring
Abney and the objections to them. Would you like a look? Or is there
someone else who might that you can think of?

Cheers
Kirsten
