Last year our community came together to say 'No' to a proposed Sainsbury development behind Wilmer Place, Church Street, and off the High Street.
We were concerned at the increase in traffic, the impact on local independent stores, the visual impact on the Abney Park Cemetery and the sheer overdevelopment of the site.
Following our now famous zombie protest parade, the proposed development was put on hold.
We have now heard that the developers are making a revised application. In other words, our original campaign has been a
success in preventing the first wholly inappropriate application from proceeding.
The developers are now coming back with what they describe as a much reduced development, at this moment in time, we don't know the full details, but we wanted to urge everyone to visit the developers consultation exhibition, which will be held on Tuesday 29 May at the site from 12 noon, to 8pm (it is not clear exactly where on site, but we suspect that it is best to approach the site from Wilmer Place).
The details can be viewed here,
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8502520/wilmerplace/Community%20Newsletter%202.pdf but clearly this is the developers 'spin' so please take the time to visit the exhibition and make up your own mind.
Stokey Local will be calling a meeting in the next couple of weeks to discuss whether we feel the changes make this proposal acceptable, or whether we need to organise to ensure our voices are heard.
Please pass this message on to neighbours and let's ensure that the developer knows that this community cares about developments in the community.
Thank you for your support
