HACKNEY NETWORK MEETING

Supporting community groups to influence and challenge development plans in their boroughs / neighbourhoods

6TH AUGUST 6.30PM–8.30PM

New Kingshold Community Hall, 49 Ainsworth Road, London E9 7JE

London Tenants Federation is currently working with Just Space on a project that brings together tenant and other community groups to influence or challenge planning policy that informs what kind of development will take place over future years. The project is funded through a grant from Trust for London and is based in six different parts of London (including Hackney).

Just Space widely supports community and voluntary groups in London that would like to be, or that are already involved in influencing and challenging planning policy both London-wide and locally. It has strong links with a number of academics from some London universities, which at times facilitates bringing in support from planning students for community groups.

London Tenants Federation brings together borough-wide groups of tenants (of social housing providers) and works closely with other voluntary and community groups in an attempt to influence London-wide housing and planning policy. Much of LTF's work focuses on long-term failures to produce anywhere near the number of genuinely affordable homes needed in London and its members' worries that often new housing developments are not only too expensive but are also too high in density and contain insufficient community, play and green spaces.

The Trust for London project provides: support and training to assist groups in responding to consultations, making representations and monitoring large developments that are taking place in their boroughs / localities and in looking at opportunities that might be offered through community and neighbourhood planning. We aim to provide opportunities for groups to support one another and to share skills and areas of experience. (Leaflet attached)

We invite you to attend our first Hackney-wide meeting (time and venue details above) at which we will be looking at:

1. Hackney's key planning policy documents

2. Current Hackney planning policy consultations (i) Proposed Site Allocations (setting out guidelines for future development on specific sites in Hackney) and (ii) Proposed Development Management Local Plan (which elaborates on / supports Hackney's key planning document; its Core Strategy 2010-25). The deadline for responding to both consultations is Sunday 15th September.

3. The London Legacy Development Corporation (which has responsibility for planning policy and decisions in part of Hackney), the development of the LLDC's 'Local Plan' and a meeting with them on 29th August.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND THIS MEETING, PLEASE LET ME KNOW BY RESPONDING TO THIS EMAIL.
