So what are the pros and cons of the PTPTN loan and other student loans? For starters, student loans allow you to afford college or university. The tuition fees of university courses can be very expensive depending on the course. A PTPTN loan can allow you to afford to pay those expensive fees. Secondly, you can also use your loan to pay for important university expenses like textbooks, a laptop and required software for your course. Lastly, paying off your PTPTN loan can help you build good credit scores. Having a good credit score is essential when you want to apply for a credit card, finance your home purchase, and even when you apply for jobs.

While many are aware of the existence of a PTPTN loan repayment exemption, not many know what the actual requirements are for a student to qualify for a PTPTN exemption, nor do they know the proper procedure one has to go through to get approval. Let's take a look at the answers to both.

The above requirement is the most important pre-requisite of all and should not be confused with any fixed CGPA. While a First Class Honours degree generally requires a CGPA of 3.7 and above, it must be noted that this will differ depending on the institution and course studied. Therefore, students must first check with their university as to what CGPA is required for them to receive First Class Honours. Having successfully obtained a First Class Honours distinction, the student will also need to meet the following criteria:

a) Copies of supporting documents shall be authenticated by authorised officers as stipulated by PTPTN, the Academic Division of the IPT or the Issuing Division of the Transcript and the scroll from where the student pursued their programme.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.

Hello world, it's been long time I never blogging and now I've decided to come back here to do some useful sharing! For your information, I was a PTPTN loaner during degree, which mean I actually need to repay the loan after graduate. But I'm super grateful that I'm debt-free! I'm here to share how I achieve this debt-free status since there are a lot of friends and juniors asked me regarding this!

According to the agreement, every loaner has to start paying off the instalments for the PTPTN loan 6 months after your graduation date. However, if you are obtaining bachelor degree with first class honour, you are eligible for repayment exemption! Every university has their own CGPA rating system as first class honour, therefore remember to check with your university academic department.

I'm a Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) graduate, so my sharing will based on my experience (application process in UMT). If you're UMT student, just continue to read this post. If you're from other university, you may read here for general application process. If you still haven't attend your convocation, you still can't start to apply, be patient until you've complete your convocation ya!

In UMT convocation, you will get a purple scroll in the stage, and it looks like this once you open it! ?

After you return your academic dress aka graduation robe, you will get your long waited scroll (which contains academic transcripts and degree certificates both in English and Malay version, total 4 papers).

After you've got these 4 important papers, you can start to prepare the documents needed for PTPTN repayment exemption.

The documents needed:1. Declaration form (you may download from HERE)2. Photocopy of graduation certificates (verified by JPA UMT)3. Photocopy of academic transcripts (verified by JPA UMT)4. Verification letter from JPA UMT

If you have some free time after returning the robe, you can photocopy these 4 papers and hand them to your friend or scan them and email to your friend to help you because during convocation period, Jabatan Pengurusan Akademik (JPA UMT) is closed.

For my case, I scanned the 4 papers and emailed them to my friend. My friend printed them out and took them to JPA UMT for verification purpose and get the verification letter because "First Class" is not stated in the degree certificate of UMT.

For UMT first class holder, your transcripts and certificates are stated "Cemerlang" or "Distinction", however PTPTN authority doesn't know that "Distinction" in UMT is equivalent to first class since every university has their own recognition for first class.

JPA UMT will give your friend this form and remember to give all your details for your friend ya!

After submit the form and all needed documents, you have to wait for 1 weeks for JPA UMT to process the verification letter. Then ask your friend to pos laju these verified documents for you and you might start to apply for exemption!

First class verification letter is looks like this. You need this to prove you're first class honour holder!

After you've received the documents, submit them to your nearest PTPTN office. You can also choose to post the documents to PTPTN HQ because certain PTPTN office might not that efficient (they want to collect all application documents and post them together and this process maybe last for more than 2 or 3 months)

I took my documents to Butterworth branch but the officers told me that they usually collect until certain amount (many) then they just send them all together to PTPTN HQ in KL. They suggested me to send my application documents by pos laju to HQ if I want the process to be faster. The officers will give you the address and phone number of the follow-up-officer, you may just phone to that respective officer to follow up your application.

So at the end I chose to pos laju my documents, and my application was approved within 1 month! Oh ya the way to know the result is only waiting for the letter. PTPTN will send a letter to your home once you successfully apply for the exemption. You can also check whether your repayment amount become 0 in here after that.

The application ain't complicated at all, so good luck to you all! Feel free to ask me any question if you still confuse with the process. ?
