As with previous weeks The Tunnel comes up trumps again when delivering a dramatic, dark sequence. The first proper confrontation between the Truth Terrorist and Karl and Elise did not disappoint, with a genuine gasp out loud moment when TT put a bullet into Elise, or her protective vest at least. This fast and frantic scene also showed us that the Truth Terrorist is more than handy in close quarters combat, and that he seemed to know exactly where to hit Karl for maximum effect. Lit mainly by torchlight, this was a very suspenseful scene to drop into this episode.
Series 1 follows the two detectives working together to find a serial killer who left the upper-half body of a French politician and the lower-half of a British prostitute in the Channel Tunnel, at the midpoint between France and the UK.
The renewal for a second series was announced on 15 February 2015.[1][2] Titled The Tunnel: Sabotage, the series premiered on Canal+ on 7 March 2016,[citation needed] followed by Sky Atlantic on 12 April 2016[citation needed] (the series was originally scheduled to debut in the UK on 5 April, but was delayed for a week due to the Brussels terrorist attacks on 22 March 2016).[citation needed] Series 2 focuses on the crash of an airliner into the french channel .
The third and final series was announced on 20 January 2017.[3] The Tunnel: Vengeance consists of six episodes.[4] Series 3 premiered on Sky Atlantic on 14 December 2017, with all episodes released on the same day.[5] The series premiered on Canal+ on 4 June 2018.[6][7]

EVANOFF: So there were several newsrooms where there were a couple of cases of carpal tunnel syndrome. And I think this got a lot of attention in the journalistic world. And I think probably helped promote the keyboard as the main source of exposures that were relevant to carpal tunnel syndrome, when in fact it would be much better to work as a journalist than to work as a meat-packer.
EVANOFF: Right, so if you look at constructions workers, you may find that 5 to 8 percent have carpal tunnel syndrome. Some of the highest reported rates have been in manufacturing and food processing. And there are some food processing jobs where if you go in and examine all the workers you may find that up to 20 percent have carpal tunnel syndrome. I think the slaughterhouses and the meatpacking plants have some of the highest exposures. They come in squawking at one end and go out wrapped in cellophane at the other end.
EVANOFF: You can imagine the kind of handwork that is involved in cutting up 2,000 chickens an hour or cutting up a cow into its constituent pieces. Other types of food processing are dairy, some vegetable picking and processing, anything that requires people to grab something, move it, twist it, cut it, pack it, stack it, pull it. And to do that thousands of times a day is a job that is at high risk of carpal tunnel syndrome as well as for other disorders of the hand and wrist like tendonitis or epicondylitis.

One thing to be aware of is that with IPSec there is an initiator and a responder. It could just be a timing thing to determine which peer is the initiator but you can also configure a peer to be passive. This means it will not initiate the tunnel, and needs to wait for the other end. The reason I mention this is in a lot of IPSec implementations from different vendors, the logs on the initiator may only show that the peer rejected the connection but no details as to the reason. That is why when you are troubleshooting it is better to do it from the responder side as it should have the details as to why the connection is rejected.
The second scenario is where you do have an established tunnel but there is an outage. That could be either the tunnel going down causing impact or even when traffic through the tunnel is affected even though your logs show the tunnel did not go down. To troubleshoot these is actually the same as scenario one, the logs. This is where you need to start but what I do want to discuss is a couple of aspects of IPSec that can be relevant to these sorts of issues.
Number one is understanding that IPSec is ultimately a negotiation to secure traffic between two devices but after the session has been established, there is no acknowledgement process. So here's what happens. Device A and Device B set up a tunnel between each other and it comes up and it works ok. The tunnel will have a current Security Association which identifies the current parameters for the IPSec tunnel. Every time it re-keys, a new Security Association is created. For Device A what this means is that for the tunnel lifetime, let's say 1 hour, it will encrypt any packets based on the current Security Association and just send those packets out. Device B does exactly the same in the opposite direction. While the sessions going through the IPSec tunnel may have an acknowledgement mechanism, the actual tunnel does not so if Device B suddenly shuts down, Device A will happily continue sending the IPSec packets. The only time the issue would be known is when it is time to re-key, then obviously the re-key would fail and the tunnel would go down. This is the normal behaviour and is exactly why we have tunnel monitoring and DPD, short for Dead Peer Detection. Both of these, if configured, can test connectivity. Testing to the remote end using DPD and whether traffic through the tunnel is actually working by using tunnel monitoring. I imagine there are a lot of tunnels configured that have just worked for months, even years without these configured but if you have important traffic running across the tunnels it is worth looking at these two features.
There is also another scenario where tunnel monitoring and DPD can help and that is on the off chance you get a state where a Security Associations is mismatched. Not common but it can happen when Device A is sending packets with a different Security Association than what Device B is expecting and the packets are therefore dropped. Again tunnel monitoring can help with this.
Somewhat related is local and remote peer identification. There are scenarios where you need to configure the local and remote peer IDs. Using private IPs as mentioned is one scenario and when you have a device that may have a dynamic IP address that could change is another scenario. What is important is that the local and remote peer IDs are there and matching as if not, the tunnel will not come up.
Erin Gallagher-Nelson is an urban explorer and takes photos to sell to magazines and stock photo websites. She had decided that there may be Victorian underground tunnels under St Paul's church in West Hackney, as it was built over St James'. On 26th March 2014 a little past midnight, she and Luke Nelson, her brother-in-law, arrived at St Paul's to explore.
They found a loose panel and managed to get underground. Beneath the church they found the Victorian brickwork corridors Erin expected and they started to take photos. Each time she did, there was a human-shaped shadow on the walls, although Luke insisted he would not make such an amateur mistake. They headed into a circular room which had no such shadows in, but as they ventured deeper into the tunnels more and more shadows appeared in the photos.
They reached the end of the tunnel, and Erin's torch ran out. Luke tried to turn his on too, without any luck. As they breathed heavily in the darkness, they heard something else breathing, followed by another and then another, followed by the sound of something being dragged across the stone before Luke screamed in agony.
Luke whimpered and the breathing stopped. Erin remembered the flash on her camera, as she pressed it on there was a wet snap and she saw Luke suspended in the air, with two human like shadows either side of his shadow. One was holding him, and the other was holding up his shadow's severed head.
Erin screamed and the rector of St Paul's arrived with some other parishioners. He guided her out, called an ambulance and took her camera. Her wife, Stephanie, insisted she seek psychiatric help, but Erin came to give her statement instead.
The foundation stone of St James was laid on 17th November 1821 by Robert Smirke, although this does not seem to tie into any of the other supernatural events at his buildings. Jonathan suspects that the People's Church of the Divine Host might be involved, but there is no link between them and St Paul's. Stephanie Gallagher-Nelson refuses to give any more details or have anyone speak to Erin.
