Chester and I will be at the Heliport tomorrow night, Saturday, July 2^nd, rather than Peddler Hill. I figure that since it’s the 4^th of July weekend that there will be 37 million campers at Peddler.

We had a great night at the Heliport. John Schimpf, myself, Tim Clark, Paul Kovacik, Jason and Ian Keyes. Did I miss anybody? Chester’s Sidereal Tech drive system performed excellently [finally!], Paul goofed with photography, Jason shot Scorpius, John enjoyed his first full night with his new 17.5” scope, and Tim was shooting Cygnus. Dew whacked us, we were done by Midnight, except Jason.

Oh yah, we saw an AWESOME bolide, I think roughly 10PM, heading NW to SE. It spent half the sky busting itself into multiple pieces.

That meteor was spectacular! I've never seen one that bright or last that long before.

Just wanted to share my image of the Iris Nebula from data collected at the heliport... I'll probably use it again at the meeting, since it was one of my summer targets. It has some banding I opted to leave in because I couldn't get rid of it without eliminating the dust clouds that I wanted to preserve...

Reading about the Iris nebula I see that there is also an open cluster known as Collinder 427 on the west side of the nebula. Not sure which way is west, but do you think you can also see this?

Thanks everyone! I hope to get a little more time on this subject during the next new moon to bring out the dusty parts more and hopefully reduce the noise even more.

Tim, north is approximately the upper left corner of my image. I'll have to check out exactly where that cluster is. Maybe I could reframe the iris to bring the cluster into the fov. It's always interesting to have other larg(ish) objects in one image.
