Mick Schumacher confirms Alpine exit, paving the way for IndyCar leap (IndyCar)
Mick Schumacher’s NTT IndyCar Series debut hasn’t been confirmed just yet, but it’s looking much more likely after a Thursday news drop.
Schumacher
confirmed yesterday that he’ll leave Alpine’s FIA World Endurance Championship program next year, paving the way for what is expected to be a return to single seater competition in the United States.
“I’m very grateful for these past two years with Alpine Endurance Team,” Schumacher wrote. “I’ve learnt so much on and off track, and I’m thankful to everyone who’s been a part of it. I wish them the very best for the future.”
The 26-year-old got his start in karting and moved onto the F1 ladder system, winning titles in both the Formula 3 European Championship and Formula 2. That was enough to secure the German a Formula 1 promotion with Haas in 2021.
Unfortunately for the son of F1 great Michael Schumacher, Mick’s time in F1 was short-lived. Driving for a struggling organization, Schumacher struggled to finish in the points. He tallied a career-best finish of sixth in the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix, but Schumacher
managed just 12 total points scored across two years.
Those results led to an early exit from Haas, who brought in Nico Hulkenberg to replace Schumacher in 2023. Without a team to leap to, Schumacher spent 2023 as a reserve driver for both Mercedes and McLaren before turning to WEC to reboot his career in 2024.
Schumacher competed for Alpine two two years in a stretch that earned him praise and included a trio of podium finishes at Fuji Speedway, Imola and Spa-Francorchamps. But single seaters have always been his calling, so rumors of an IndyCar leap spread as Schumacher
completed a test with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in October.
Where Schumacher will go next remains to be seen. But sports cars don’t seem the be the option of choice. Schumacher was linked to a potential reserve role with Cadillac’s incoming team along with a WEC seat at Team JOTA, but turned it down alongside WEC offers
with McLaren and, now, Alpine.
That leaves IndyCar as the likely landing place. And based on last month’s test, RLLR is the most obvious candidate for his services.

Felipe Massa’s Crashgate suit set to go to trial after denied motion to dismiss (F1)
Felipe Massa’s controversial lawsuit over his lost 2008 Formula 1 championship is going to trial.
The Brazilian has sued Formula One Management, ex-company leader Bernie Ecclestone and the FIA for £64million ($84million) in damages over alleged lost earnings and sponsorship, alleging a scheme to conceal apparent race-fixing that emerged after the confirmation
of the 2008 season’s results.
Both sides presented arguments in October at London’s High Court. The
defendants attempted to get the lawsuit dismissed, but on Thursday Justice Robert Jay rejected the motion, meaning the case is now poised to go to trial.
The case itself revolves around a scheme involving an intentional crash from Nelson Piquet Jr. during the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix. Piquet’s shunt changed the complexion of the race, ultimately paving the way for teammate Fernando Alonso to win the race.
Massa lost the lead of the race in the aftermath of the crash, costing him points that later proved crucial in a last-second championship defeat to Lewis Hamilton. Talk of the crash being intentional didn’t come about until 2009, after the 2008 results were

No court victory will reverse the 2008 results and Thursday’s small win doesn’t mean that Massa will prevail in the case itself - Justice Jay noted that establishing the necessary evidence will be a tough task - but Massa is now free to fight for the damages
he feels owed.
“This is an extraordinary victory – an important day for me, for justice, and for everyone passionate about Formula 1,” Massa said afterward. “The Court acknowledged the strength of our case and did not allow the defendants to smother the truth about 2008.
The deliberate crash cost me a world title, and the authorities at the time chose to cover up the facts instead of defending the integrity of the sport.
“They did everything they could to stop the lawsuit, but our fight is for justice, and today we took a decisive step. The truth will prevail at trial. We will investigate everything thoroughly. Every document, every communication, every piece of evidence revealing
the conspiracy among the defendants will be presented.
“I am more determined and confident than ever! When the whole truth comes to light, justice will be served – for me, for Brazilians, for the tifosi, for all motorsport fans who deserve an honest sport, and for the very future of F1.”

International Motorsports Hall of Fame hit with controversy, Commission members removed (Racing)
Controversy hit Alabama’s International Motorsports Hall of Fame this week, as

Governor Kay Ivey removed all 18 members of its Commission.
The decision followed an audit which showed 35 different violations. Included in them were more than $200,000 in misspent funds tied to a former employee, a pair of missing vehicles that were donated - the museum recorded them as sold, but has no documented
proof of sale. Those
misspent funds included over $5,000 paid on personal power bill payments and over $74,000 to creditors not tied to the Hall of Fame commission.
The full list is listed in the article. Included in the firings is museum chairman Gerald Dial, who worked with the museum for more than four decades. Executive Director Adam Stocks told
WBRC 6 News that he’s resigned from his position. A new commission has been appointed.
