Justin Allgaier seemingly poised to come back to JRM in 2027 (NASCAR O’Reilly)
Justin Allgaier is in the midst of his best season in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series.
For a while, it seemed like it could be his last, too. But Allgaier and JR Motorsports have seemingly decided to keep the good times rolling.
McReynolds followed up to inquire about Earnhardt Miller’s answer, and she responded by saying she’s “questioning whether we know that or not, whether we’re supposed to know that.”
Allgaier has been one of JRM’s most important hires, providing a veteran presence for the company’s many rising young stars over the years while serving as a bonafide title contender. The 40-year-old was the 2024 champion, has driven a JRM car in the past two Daytona 500s and has secured 31 of his 34 career O’Reilly Series wins since arriving at the company in 2016.

Bowman Gray Stadium announces Kyle Busch Invitational (Short Tracks)
In the weeks since the tragic passing of Kyle Busch, various members of the motorsport community have found ways to pay homage to the fallen NASCAR champion.
Bowman Gray Stadium may have found the best way yet.
The iconic North Carolina short track announced Thursday the creation of the “Kyle Busch Invitational,” an Aug. 21 event that will feature Legend and Bandolero races. The Legends will feature “up to” 51 cars and the Bandolero event will have 18 cars. Top-five points finishers in the Summer Shootout standings and feature winners will receive an automatic bid to contest the race.
Both races will air on FloRacing and the NASCAR Channel. All proceeds will benefit the Bundle of Joy Fund.
“It’s an honor to host the Kyle Busch Invitational at Bowman Gray Stadium and celebrate the life and legacy of one of racing’s most accomplished drivers,” NASCAR Mid-Atlantic Division Vice President Clay Campbell said in a statement. “This event brings together the passion of our fans, the rich history of the Madhouse, and an incredible cause through The Samantha and Kyle Busch Bundle of Joy Fund. This will be a special night for our fans, our community, and everyone involved.”  
Samantha Busch posted about the news on Instagram, saying “Kyle truly believe grassroots racing was the heart of NASCAR and bringing a Legend car race to Bowman Gray was something he talked about often because he know how special that place is to drivers and fans alike.
“Seeing one of Kyle’s dreams live on through this event means so much to our family,” she added. “I’m so incredibly grateful to Ben Kennedy and everyone who helped make this dream a reality.”

 Lando Norris incurs 10-place penalty with new battery for Belgium (F1)
Lando Norris is in for an uphill battle when the lights go out Sunday at Spa-Francorchamps.
McLaren confirmed Thursday that it will fit the defending champion’s car with a new battery along with Mercedes’ latest engine. The battery will be his fourth of the season, surpassing the allowed total of three and prompting a repercussion.
That means Norris will endure a 10-place grid penalty for Sunday’s race, leaving him in the back half of the field regardless of his qualifying result. The team has elected to take this in Belgium because overtaking is easier and McLaren itself may not have race-winning pace at the iconic circuit. It figures to line up more favorably in the ensuing trip to Hungary.
A team statement read:
While the power electronics unit we installed in Japan, and have used in every session since Miami, has worked reliably, Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP) has since introduced a series of reliability fixes to their new power electronics systems.
“However, in order to take advantage of these improvements, we must incur a 10-place grid penalty on Lando’s car in order to take a new unit.”
McLaren is currently scrambling to return to the top end of the grid after a subpar start to F1’s new era in 2026. Norris narrowly defeated Max Verstappen and teammate Oscar Piastri for the 2025 championship, but has largely been a non-factor this year as Mercedes and Ferrari lead the way.
The Briton currently sits fifth in the standings, ahead of Piastri but 82 points behind frontrunner Kimi Antonelli.

Despite winning six races, Justin Allgaier isn’t anywhere near on pace for his best season when it comes to laps led. Allgaier has led 472 laps through 21 races - a hefty total, but only on pace for 742 laps in the full season, well shy of the 1,056 he led in 2025.
The key for Allgaier has been which laps he’s led. Many times in the past, Allgaier has paced a host of laps only to come up short of victory in the end - he’s won just 10 of the 22 races in which he’s led over 100 laps. By comparison, Allgaier isn’t always leading hefty lap totals this year, but he’s surging to the front when it counts.
