Spire Motorsports announced Tuesday morning that Rodney Childers will join the team as the crew chief of the No. 7 Chevrolet in 2025.

Childers moving to Spire, LaJoie in 2025 (NASCAR Cup)
Spire Motorsports’ latest major signing will be atop the box in 2025.
 
The company confirmed Tuesday that it has signed veteran crew chief Rodney Childers, who will work with Corey LaJoie and the No. 7 team in 2025.
 
LaJoie’s current crew chief, Ryan Sparks, has been double-dipping with the role while also serving as the company’s competition director. He’ll keep the latter role and step away from crew chief duties as part of the move.
 
“Our motto has been brick-by-brick for the last four years and this is another key component to building higher degrees of success,” Sparks said in a team release. “When you have the opportunity to bring in a championship-caliber crew chief like Rodney Childers, you have to capitalize.
 
“This is an incredible opportunity for the company and the bottom line is we’re all in this to put Spire Motorsports first.”
 
Childers, 48, is the winningest active crew chief in the NASCAR Cup Series. The driver-turned-signal caller has made his name as crew chief of Stewart-Haas Racing’s No. 4 team, earning 37 victories and the 2014 title in 10 seasons with Kevin Harvick. He also won three times with Michael Waltrip Racing’s David Reutimann and Brian Vickers from 2009 through 2013.
 
The veteran is currently working with rookie Josh Berry, sitting 21st in the standings with two top-fives and four top-10s in 20 starts. The pair had expressed interest in staying together, but with SHR closing and Berry off to Wood Brothers Racing in 2025, Childers looked elsewhere.
 
“I think the biggest thing is seeing how Spire Motorsports has grown over the last couple of years,” said Childers. “They are investing in people, and that’s what makes a difference these days. We all buy the same chassis, bodies and parts. What makes a difference is the people.
 
“Spire continues to invest in the people within the team and they seek out good people to add depth to an already strong group. Corey is a veteran of the sport and I think we have a tremendous opportunity in front of us.
 
“Spire has been on my radar for the past year. I had quite a few guys from the No. 4 team go over there and they keep telling me how much they enjoy it, what the culture is like and how well everybody gets along. That started it from my side.”
 
The arrival of Childers should be a promising sign for LaJoie, who’s taken a step back in 2024 after finishing a career-best 25th in the 2023 standings. LaJoe sits 31st in points with a 2.6 drop in average finish from last year thus far. He sits 55 points behind rookie Carson Hocevar, who leads Spire in 25th.

Hailie Deegan, AM Racing part ways post-Chicago (NASCAR Xfinity)
AM Racing and Xfinity Series rookie Hailie Deegan have parted ways, effective immediately.
 
Both the team and driver confirmed the news Monday morning, two days after Joey Logano replaced Deegan in Chicago while the organization evaluated its equipment.
 
The team statement read:
 
“AM Racing and Hailie Deegan have decided to part ways, effective immediately. We are grateful for Hailie’s contributions and dedication as the driver of the No. 15 Ford Mustang during her time with the race team. We wish Hailie the best in her future endeavors and look forward to her continued success on and off the track.”
 
Deegan arrived at AM Racing for the 2024 season after spending three years in the Craftsman Truck Series. The 22-year-old hoped to take the next step in her climb up the NASCAR ladder, but was enduring a difficult campaign. She sat 27th in the championship standings before sitting out Chicago, with an average finish of 26.8 and a best result of 12th at Talladega Superspeedway. Logano came home eighth in Chicago.
 
“Beginning this season, I had a lot of excitement and hope in taking my next step in the NASCAR Xfinity Series,” Deegan said on social media. “It’s something I’ve been working towards for years and always dreamt about. I worked hard to prepare for this season after the team pursued me to drive their car.
 
“Unfortunately, it has not turned out the way that I expected. There are always several reasons within a race team as to why things do or do not work, but sadly our goals no longer align. With that being said, myself and AM Racing will be parting ways.
 
“The only thing I am focused on is getting back to being competitive. That is ALL that matters to me. I’m working as quick as possible to find the best opportunities to get back to the track. I’m thankful for the following that I have and everyone who supports me. It’s truly only me that knows the whole story and what I need to succeed. See you at the track, soon.”
 
It’s unclear what Deegan will do next. The Californian was signed to Ford’s driver development program ahead of the 2020 season. AM Racing will field Josh Berry in this weekend’s race at Pocono Raceway.
