Ferrari embroiled in controversy after exec calls on drivers to talk less (F1)
Ferrari president John Elkann sounded off on drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton at an event for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games after their double-DNF in the São Paulo Grand Prix, saying the pair need to “focus on driving and talk less.”
“Brazil was a huge disappointment,” Elkann said. “If we look at the Formula 1 championship, we can say that on one hand we have our mechanics, who are actually are winning the championship with their performance and everything they’ve done on the pit stops.
“If we look at our engineers, there’s no doubt that the car has improved. If we look at the rest, it’s not up to par. We certainly have drivers, for whom it’s important that they focus on driving and talk less, because we still have important races ahead of us and it’s not impossible to get second place.”
The comments follow a slide down the standings for the Prancing Horse, which fell to fourth in the constructors’ championship with three races remaining in the 2025 Formula 1 season. Leclerc was caught up in a crash in Brazil, while Hamilton retired with damage from two separate incidents. The team now finds itself 36 points adrift from Mercedes in second, with Red Bull four points ahead in third.
Neither driver openly commented on Elkann’s critique, but both hinted at it. Hamilton wrote on X, saying “I back my team. I back myself. I will not give up. Not now, not then, not ever.”
Leclerc shared a post admitting it was “disappointing to come back home with nearly no points at all for the team in what is a critical moment of the season to fight for the second place in the constructors championship,”
“It’s uphill from now and it’s clear that only unity can help us turn that situation around in the last the races. We’ll give it all, as always.”

 Rick Hendrick, Roger Penske to be deposed as part of NASCAR trial (NASCAR Cup)
Judge Kenneth D. Bell confirmed the requirement on Tuesday. The pair will have to attend the deposition in person, with no restrictions pertaining to the matters of the case.
Hendrick and Penske came into the picture when NASCAR added them to a witness list. There had previously been attempts to limit the scope of their interviews and potentially restrict them to Zoom, with Hendrick and Penske filing a brief to limit discussion topics saying they “agreed to give limited testimony regarding non-confidential matters” but only “in a way that did not forcer them to ‘take sides’ in the lawsuit.”
The suing teams argued against their brief, and Bell ultimately aligned with their line of thinking.
“The trial of this matter will be publicly and fairly contested under the relevant rules and law, without regard to the notoriety of the companies and individuals involved,” Bell wrote. “No company or individual will be accorded special treatment.”
There is one potential caveat, however. NASCAR could commit not to call them as witnesses. From the next part of Bell’s decision:
NASCAR has told Plaintiffs and now the Court, that Mr. Hendrick and Mr. Penske will be called as witnesses for NASCAR at trial. Therefore, unless NASCAR irrevocably commits not to call these individuals as trial witnesses, then Plaintiffs have the right to promptly depose them before trial and cross-examine them at trial within the governing Federal Rules, without limitation.
The trial remains set to begin on Dec. 1 without a settlement.
