Max Verstappen calls F1 car ‘anti-racing’, Lando Norris counters (F1)
Week before the official start of Formula 1’s new era in the Australian Grand Prix, the tour’s top drivers are already sharing controversial opinions about the new cars.
“It feels a bit more like Formula E on steroids,” “he said. “As a pure driver, I enjoy driving flat out. And at the moment, you cannot drive like that. There’s a lot going on.
“A lot of what you do as a driver, in terms of inputs, has a massive effect on the energy side of things.
“For me, that’s just not Formula 1. Maybe it’s better to drive Formula E, right? Because that’s all about energy efficiency and management. That’s what they stand for. Driving-wise, it’s not so fun.”
Verstappen went on to say he just wants “normal driving, just how it should be, without having to (think) ‘oh, if I brake a bit longer or less or more, or one gear up or down’, you know, stuff like that, that it so heavily impacts
the performance on the straights.”
Not everyone shares Verstappen’s opinion - at least not publicly. Defending champion Lando Norris was much more favorable in his discussion of the car, calling “a lot of fun.”
“Formula 1 changes all the time,” Norris said. “Sometimes it’s a bit better to drive, sometimes not as good to drive. But we get paid a stupid amount of money to drive so we can’t really complain in the end of the day.
“Any driver can go and find something else to do. It’s not like he has to be here or any driver has to be here. It’s a challenge, but it’s a good, fun challenge for the engineers and the drivers.”
“I sat in a meeting the other day and they’re taking us through it. And yeah, it’s like you need a degree to fully understand it all,” Hamilton said of the regulations, which he called “ridiculously complex.”

Kyle Larson, Cliff Daniels sign multiyear extension with Hendrick Motorsports (NASCAR Cup)
Hendrick Motorsports has found a winning combination in its No. 5 team, and the organization knows it. So team owner Rick Hendrick made a point to lock down the pairing early entering the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season.
“When you look at what it takes to succeed at the highest level year after year, it starts with people,” Hendrick said in a team release. “Kyle is one of the most complete drivers in our sport. His talent, work ethic and instincts
give us a chance to win every time we race. Cliff is a true servant leader who brings out the best in everyone around him and sets the standard for how we go to the track.
“Having HendrickCars.com alongside this group continues to create real, measurable value for our automotive business. Together, it’s a combination that will keep winning races and competing for championships for a long time.”
After entering NASCAR with Chip Ganassi Racing as a top prospect and showing promise before an unceremonious exit when he uttered a racial slur during a streamed iRacing event, Larson arrived at Hendrick in 2021 and immediately
found his footing. The Californian has led the Cup Series in wins (26), top-fives (78) and laps led (7,149) in the five years since, earning two championships and crown jewel victories in the Coca-Cola 600 (2021), Southern 500 (2023) and Brickyard 400 (2024).
Larson was entering a contract year. And while he was expected to re-sign at Hendrick, until it was made official he was poised to be free agency’s top prospect. All parties involved worked together early to make sure that didn’t
happen.
“I’m incredibly grateful to continue my career with Hendrick Motorsports and HendrickCars.com,” Larson said. “This team, this organization and this family have given me everything I need to compete at the highest level. We’ve accomplished
a lot together, but I truly believe the best is still ahead.”

Chevrolet, Honda re-up with IndyCar in multiyear deal (IndyCar)
The NTT IndyCar Series’ two manufacturers are staying put for 2027 and beyond.
“This is a monumental day for IndyCar, fueled by a massive and historic commitment from two of our best and most trusted partners,” IndyCar President J. Douglas Boles said in a series release. “Chevrolet and Honda have worked tirelessly
with us over the last 12 months to get to this point, and both have made it very clear that they are fully committed to this sport and invested in continuing the positive momentum the series generated in 2025.”
“As charter entrants in 2028, Chevrolet and Honda now have a new and exciting opportunity to build on their incredible legacies across IndyCar Series racing, while continuing their strong relationships with our current roster of
teams and helping deliver an innovative and industry leading new car in 2028,” Boles said.
Chevrolet and Honda both have rich histories in modern IndyCar racing. The Bowtie brand has been involved since the CART days of the 1980s, while Honda’s been around since joining what was then CART in 1994.
Details about IndyCar’s planned 2028 car will be revealed at a late date.

Race Recaps
NASCAR
Cup Series: It was a night of cutline drama and nervy pushes at Daytona International Speedway:
-
Qualifying kicked off the festivities.
Kyle
Busch secured the Daytona 500 pole, with Chase Briscoe joining him on the front row. The two Open cars to advance on qualifying pace were 23XI Racing;’s Corey Heim and JR Motorsports’ Justin Allgaier, who narrowly beat out Corey LaJoie and RFK Racing.
(Reid Spencer / NASCAR.com)
-
Joey
Logano secured a win in the opening Duel, surviving a tense affair that saw a sizable crash in the final lap. Involved in that crash? LaJoie, who was set to transfer but instead lost his spot to Casey Mears on a Hail Mary drive into - and through -
the incident. (Reid Spencer / NASCAR.com)
-
The second race was comparatively issue-free. Chase Elliott held off Carson Hocevar to claim a caution-free affair. The real drama came in post-race tech, where the seemingly-qualified
Anthony Alfredo’s car failed inspection, opening the door for BJ McLeod to make the field.

Kyle Busch is on the pole for Sunday’s Daytona 500, which is theoretically a good sign for his odds to win his first Great American Race. But recent history doesn’t favor the two-time champ. The last time a Daytona 500 winner came
from the pole was 26 years ago, when Dale Jarrett led 86 laps en route to his third and final victory in the iconic event.
