Buescher, Love sign new Ford deals for 2027 (NASCAR Cup)
It’s been a big week on the NASCAR Cup Series silly season front for Ford, with both a veteran and key new signing added to the mix for 2027.
One of NASCAR’s unsung modern stars, Buescher is a successful graduate of Roush’s driver development program. The Texan won titles in both the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series (2015) and ARCA Menards Series (2012) on the way up before becoming a consistent force
at the Cup level.
Buescher is in the midst of his 11th full-time Cup season and has emerged as one of the tour’s most consistent drivers, finishing no worse than 25th in the standings through his early years with Front Row Motorsports before challenging for playoff berths and
wins yearly with RFK Racing.
The 33-year-old has quietly accumulated six Cup wins along the way, headlined by a three-win campaign in 2023. He’s also been one of the biggest benefactors of the return to points racing in 2026, finding himself seventh in the standings and well inside of
the provisional Chase grid thus far despite a general lack of top-end pace from Ford.
“Chris is everything you want in a race car driver and teammate,” RFK co-owner and driver Brad Keselowski said in a team release. “His talent behind the wheel speaks for itself, but what really separates him is his professionalism, preparation and commitment
to making everyone around him better.
“He’s been instrumental in the progress we’ve made as an organization, and we’re excited to continue building toward our goals together.”
Love has been among the top prospects in NASCAR’s lower levels in recent years, winning 10 of 20 ARCA races in 2023 before rising up to the O’Reilly level with Richard Childress Racing. The 21-year-old has secured three series wins and took advantage of the
playoff format to upset friend Connor Zilisch for the championship last fall.
He currently sits second to Justin Allgaier in the 2026 standings and has made seven Cup starts to date.
“Driving the No. 21 for Wood Brothers Racing is truly an honor,” Love said in a team release. “This team has played such an important role in NASCAR history, and the drivers who have sat behind the wheel of this car are some of the greatest our sport has ever
seen.
“I’m incredibly grateful to everyone at Wood Brothers Racing, Team Penske and Ford Racing for believing in me – I’m excited to get to work, continue learning from the people around me and compete at the highest level.”
Love’s arrival will come at the expense of Josh Berry, whose exit was already announced. It’s uncertain where the 2025 Las Vegas race winner will land in 2027.

Alpine Monaco appeal decision creates controversy in the F1 paddock (F1)
Gasly was initially robbed of a podium finish on-track in the principality after he was subject to two separate time penalties for speeding in pit road. The Frenchman was one of five drivers hit with speeding penalties on the day - an issue later revealed to
be due to a 77cm discrepancy between the stated length of pit road and its actual measurement.
Alpine could only watch on as Isaac Hadjar celebrated on the podium that day, but it initiated its Right of Review in the ensuing week and eventually won the appeal in a two-part hearing on the following weekend in Barcelona, when FIA stewards determined that
Gasly wasn’t speeding. The altered pit road length changed the calculation of his speed and led race officials to return Gasly’s on-track result.
Of course, this decision came with its own issues. Other drivers, including McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and title contender George Russell, attempted to serve their penalties for similar infractions during the race. Russell notably failed to do so correctly and
suffered a drive-through penalty that ultimately left him out of the points, causing a major swing in the championship fight as teammate Kimi Antonelli won.
The stewards acknowledged the complexity in their decision document.
“There will undoubtedly remain questions as to whether those breaches were genuine,” they said. “There is no regulation that gives the stewards the power to ‘undo’ a served penalty. In any case, it is impossible to imagine how such power could be applied. Notably,
no other party petitioned for a Right of Review within the allowable time frame.”
“The fundamental problem is that there may be no solution that satisfies everybody involved,” Karpov wrote. “Alpine won its case and is happy for the results to remain as they are. Red Bull wants Hadjar’s podium position restored. McLaren argued that the decision
in Alpine’s case ‘risks creating sporting inequity and undermining confidence in the consistent application of the FIA Sporting Regulations.’ Mercedes, meanwhile, continues to seek justice for Russell.”

Trackhouse, Honda make team manager decisions ahead of Czech Grand Prix (MotoGP)
It’s been a big week in MotoGP silly season - just not at the rider level.
While little news has arrived on that front, two key positions have seen confirmed changes within the paddock, with both tied to the team manager.
Guidotti’s move was expected, if unconfirmed. His arrival comes amid a restructuring of the Justin Marks-led organization, with Davide Brivio planning to leave at season’s end to move over to Honda in a role that extends beyond its MotoGP efforts.
With Brivio on the way out, he’ll continue to oversee day-to-day operations while Guidotti focuses on the program’s future, including a decision on the team’s rider lineup.
It’ll mark a return to the paddock for the Italian after a successful tenure with Pramac and a short-lived two year spell with KTM from 2022 through mid-2024.
“It’s a thrilling development for Trackhouse to formally announce Francesco Guidotti as our new MotoGP Team Manager,” Marks said in a team release. “Francesco has a long and successful career in professional motorcycle racing but, just as importantly, he fits
the culture and vision of our company.
“As we embark on our next phase in the MotoGP World championship, having a racing team led by someone of Francesco’s caliber will only add to the opportunity ahead.”
Shortly after came another confirmation for the same role at Honda in similar circumstances. With Alberto Puig set for a year-end shift into a Honda Racing Corporation advisor role, the company has confirmed plans to promote current technical director Mikihiko
Kawase into the position next year.
There was initial speculation amid the prior announcements that the role could go to Brivio, but with the former Trackhouse leader taking on different duties, Honda kept its focus in-house.
In a similar (if slightly different) pattern, Kawase will focus on the engineering side of the company while Puig provides “guidance on team management matters, particularly those relating to day-to-day operations, which are largely handled by European personnel,”
per reporting from Motorsport’s Oriol Puigdemont.
“It is a great honor for me to have the opportunity to lead a team with such a rich history and so many achievements,” Kawase said in a release. “I am grateful to Honda for this opportunity, and also to Alberto Puig, who has been a great mentor and advisor
to me for many years.
“The support of both Honda and Alberto will be crucial to the team’s success as we approach one of the biggest regulatory changes the sport has seen since the transition from two-stroke to four-stroke engines.”
(Source(s): Oriol Puigdemont / Motorsport (x2))
Number of the Day: 11.1
If there’s one thing you have to give Jesse Love, it’s that he’s consistent. The defending O’Reilly Auto Parts Series champion’s 2026 campaign hasn’t been far off from 2025. He has the same 11.1 average finish, sits near the top of the standings and is on pace
for a similar top-10 total and a potential boost in top-fives (he has six now and only earned nine last year).
The only thing missing are the wins, but he also had just one Daytona International Speedway victory at this stage last year. Love’s led more laps - 374 in 17 races compared to 297 in the entirety of 2025 - his No. 2 team just needs to put together a complete
race and get back to victory lane.
