Tyler Reddick rang in the NASCAR Cup Series season with a last-lap comeback to win the Daytona 500. It was his ninth career win and first in the 500, a year after placing second. Chase Elliott led most of the final lap, but Reddick
passed him on the closing stretch. Elliott was then taken out in a multi-car pileup just after Reddick nudged ahead. (Elliott would get the honor of finishing fourth while going backward.) Reddick, a 30-year-old Californian, races for Michael Jordan’s 23XI
Racing, which just won
a major settlement from NASCAR in the offseason. A nice few months for MJ.

Cup Series: Two months removed from a harsh legal battle with NASCAR brass, 23XI Racing co-owner Michael Jordan shook NASCAR Chairman and CEO Jim France’s hand in victory lane at Daytona International Speedway.
NASCAR’s biggest weekend was conquered entirely by the teams involved in its legal battles over the offseason. And on the sport’s grandest stage, it was 23XI’s Tyler Reddick that secured the biggest win of his life.
Reddick
dodged a crash to open the white flag lap and masterfully maneuvered his way around Zane Smith and Chase Elliott in the final mile to claim the Daytona 500. Aided by a push from teammate Riley Herbst - along with a massive crash the Cup sophomore caused
coming to the checkered flag - Reddick jumped outside of Smith and down to the bottom to deny Elliott and secur the Harley J. Earl Trophy. ((Reid Spencer /

It was an eventful, attrition-filled race that started an hour early due to fear of incoming rain. A sizable chunk of the field was eliminated in a massive Stage 2 crash.
Those that remained largely fell victim to a chaotic last lap, starting with Carson Hocevar out front and ended with him mired back in 18th. NASCAR held onto the caution flag and let the dwindling field battle to the checkered flag.
In the end, Reddick was the one that took advantage of the opportunity. Now he’ll forever be listed as a winner of NASCAR’s top race.
O’Reilly Auto Parts Series: Before the Cup Series field could complete its season-opening spectacle, Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Hill was given another opportunity to take the stars of NASCAR’s second tour to school.

Brennan Poole had an opportunity to jump outside of Hill on the final lap, but fell victim to an errant shove from behind. From there it was smooth sailing to the finish line for the Georgian.
Craftsman Truck Series: Chandler Smith wasn’t where he wanted to be heading into turn 3 on the final lap of Friday’s race. But with help from Ty Majeski and a lack of awareness from those ahead,

The battle for the victory was seemingly coming down to John Hunter Nemechek, Gio Ruggiero and Christian Eckes. But a combination of contact and side-drafting amongst the trio stalled their momentum. Smith came charging through
on the bottom and Nemechek failed to block the run.
The race was notable for its entry list, which featured a returning Tony Stewart, action sports star Travis Pastrana and YouTube sensation Cleetus McFarland along with several current Cup stars.
Unfortunately, two of the biggest names were done early. McFarland (real name Garrett Mitchell) spun off turn 4 and smashed the inside wall in the opening laps.
Stewart was biding his timing and trying to get his truck dialed in during Ram’s NASCAR return when a crashing Jake Garcia slammed his No. 25 into the outside wall.
Pastrana was more fortunate, surviving the attrition to score a respectable finish in 15th.
ARCA Menards Series: One day removed from a near miss in the Truck Series opener, Gio Ruggiero avoided the same result in ARCA’s portion of the Daytona weekend.
