Chase Briscoe confirmed at Joe Gibbs Racing for 2025 (NASCAR Cup)
NASCAR’s worst-kept secret was finally revealed Tuesday afternoon - Chase Briscoe is coming to Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) in 2025.
 
JGR made official the news that was rumored and accidentally spoiled by teammate Christopher Bell in a Friday media availability. Briscoe will take over the No. 19 Toyota, replacing the retiring Martin Truex Jr. The 2017 Cup Series champ is set to pull back from full-time competition at year’s end.
 
Crew chief James Small will continue on with Briscoe, as will longtime Truex sponsor Bass Pro Shops.
 
“I’m excited for this opportunity with Joe Gibbs Racing and Bass Pro Shops,” Briscoe said. “From a competition standpoint, JGR is the place to be if you want to go win races week in and week out and to race for the championship every year. I am blessed that Johnny Morris and Bass Pro are on board to help us carry on the legacy of the 19 car.
 
“For me personally, being an avid outdoorsman, there’s a lot of pride in now being a part of the Bass Pro brand and I’m extremely grateful for this partnership. Getting to meet Johnny, I feel like I share a lot of the same values as him and Coach, and I’m ready to get to work and prove that they have made a great choice putting me in this car.”
 
Briscoe’s arrival comes as his current team, Stewart-Haas Racing, prepares to close up shop at season’s end. The four-car operation is selling off three of its charters and exiting the sport, with co-owner Gene Haas taking the fourth charter and Xfinity Series program for a slimmed down operation named Haas Factory Team.
 
Briscoe is arguably the team’s best active driver after 2014 champion Kevin Harvick’s retirement. He’s the lone Cup winner on the team and leads the organization in the Cup Series standings, sitting 16th.

John Force improving on long road to recovery (NHRA)
Four days after he suffered a vicious accident in the Virginia Nationals, John Force has been moved from the trauma intensive care unite to the neuro intensive care unit.
 
John Force Racing (JFR) gave the update on its namesake driver Thursday. Force was involved in a fiery crash when his engine blew spectacularly after winning in the first round of Funny Car eliminations at Virginia Motorsports Park.
 
The 75-year-old was reported to be awake and alert when he was examined on-site by the NHRA medical team before being transferred to a nearby hospital. The current focus of Force’s care is one his head injury.
 
“The Force family is grateful for the team of medical professionals who are caring for John, and for the overwhelming number of heartfelt messages of prayer, support, and concern,” the team statement read. “Thank you for continuing to respect the privacy of the family and John Force Racing team members.”
 
Force’s daughter, Brittany Force, plans to skip this week’s Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio. She’ll instead stay with her father, with support from her family, team and sponsors. Funny Car competitor Austin Prock will continue to compete for JFR.

Extreme H reveals hydrogen-powered Pioneer 25 (Extreme H)
Extreme H has unveiled its new hydrogen-powered off-road car ahead of the new-look tour’s 10-round inaugural season.
 
A successor to the Odyssey 21 electric vehicles of Extreme E - which will end at the conclusion of its current season - the hydrogen-powered car is called the Pioneer 25. It’s a spec machine that will see Extreme H become the first hydrogen-powered off-road racing world championship.
 
“We are incredibly proud to introduce the world to the first hydrogen racing car and the Extreme H series. This launch is not just about a new vehicle; it’s about pioneering the future of sustainable motorsport,” Extreme H CEO Alejandro Agag said in a press release. “Hydrogen fuel cells offer a remarkable opportunity to reduce our carbon footprint and promote clean energy solutions, and we are proud to lead this charge with Extreme H.
 
“The evolution to Extreme H is a momentous moment for our championship. It’s important for every motorsport series to have a unique selling point and hydrogen is very significant. We are undoubtedly hydrogen pioneers, the first in this space, and we are excited to showcase the potential of an element that, in large parts, remains a hugely untapped resource.”
 
The cars are equipped with a 75kW hydrogen fuel cell from Symbio. It weighs 2,200 kilograms, sits 2.4 meters wired and is expected to go from 0-100kph in 4.5 seconds. Each car will feature standardized parts from Spark Racing Technology, but teams will be able to redesign the front and rear bodywork and lights.
 
Extreme H plans to kick off its 10-round schedule on Saudi Arabia next April, but the Pioneer 25 can first be seen in a public appearance at Scotland’s Hydro X-Prix on July 13-14.
