NHRA legend John Force announces retirement (Drag Racing)
After a 46-year career that included numerous accolades, memorable moments and a barrage of noteworthy quotes, NHRA veteran John Force finally announced his retirement Thursday at age 76.
The decision to step aside came 17 months removed from his last run, which saw Force survive an engine explosion and vicious crash at the NHRA Virginia Nationals. Force had suffered a traumatic brain injury and fractured sternum in the incident, which saw him spend a week in intensive care.
“I’ve been under doctors’ care and I still am, so if I say anything wrong, please excuse me. It’s time for me to retire,” Force said in a video posted on social media. “It all made sense to me, even though I have medical stuff that I had to address. Do I want to get back in the car and get hit in the head? And I don’t.”
Thursday’s announcement brings an end to an unprecedented era of success. Force tallied 157 Funny Car wins, secured 16 championships and even won 10 titles in a row from 1993 through 2002. Along the way he built up the powerhouse John Force Racing and competed both with and alongside his daughters Ashley, Courtney and Brittany. One of his drivers, Austin Prock, won his second-straight Funny Car title on Sunday.
More than any of success behind the wheel, Force became an icon of the growing motorsports scene due to his brash, spur-of-the-moment style and the stream of consciousness he delivered in interviews. Even his retirement announcement was only confirmed with his teams minutes before he went on stage.
Force will be joined in retirement by his daughter Brittany, who also confirmed plans to step away to focus on starting a family after a 13-year career in the NHRA. She’s the most successful driver in Top Fuel history, with 19 wins and 40 final-round appearances.
“This weekend, with the event getting cancelled, I look back on Las Vegas, my last pass down the drag strip, we turned a win light on and ended up in the winner’s circle, so that’s where my focus is,” Brittany said. “I’m really proud of everything this Monster Energy team has accomplished this season, everything John Force Racing has accomplished.

 Ram planning new weekly drivers for No. 25 entry in 2026 (NASCAR Trucks)
Ram’s Craftsman Truck Series return is going to come with a fun weekly twist for the 2026 season.
The manufacturer announced Monday that it will run a Free Agent Program during its return season, putting a different driver behind the wheel of its No. 25 entry each weekend. Appearing drivers will be announced on the week of the race. It will be one of five entries fielded by Kaulig Racing.
Ram plans to open the opportunity to anyone in the motorsports world, so long as they’re approved by NASCAR and Kaulig Racing. It will establish its own point system to award a prize to the ride’s best driver at year’s end.
“There are 20 million fans of NASCAR, but a large percentage of that is in the Cup Series; it doesn’t necessarily transfer back down to the Truck Series,” Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis told RACER. “Some of it is the time of the weekend that it’s on and things like that, but it never made sense to me because there are synergies between the two series, and the fact that 50 percent of the fans drive a truck. I never really understood why there wasn’t more engagement in the Truck Series.
“I said, ‘You know what, that’s our challenge.’ Our challenge is that we’re going to be in the series, at least for the first year, exclusively, and we need to create more fan engagement in the Truck Series. That’s where the free agent (idea) came from.”
The program had been rumored before Monday’s announcement. Prospective drivers will join a trio of confirmed full-time drivers in ARCA Menards Series champion Brenden Queen, former Cup Series driver Justin Haley and Daniel Dye.

Porsche planning junior works team in Formula E
Formula E will have a new factory team for the tour’s 2026-27 season, but it’ll be coming from a familiar manufacturer.
Porsche confirmed Monday that it intends to expand its factory operation in the tour, launching a second ‘junior’ works team in addition to supplying a customer team - believed to be Cupra Kiro - for the Gen4 era.
The decision comes amid a time of change for Porsche, which recently stepped away from the FIA World Endurance Championship’s Hypercar class while recommitting to Formula E and IMSA.
Porsche’s move has been met with surprise from the Formula E paddock.
“They are the preeminent racing manufacturer within Formula E,” Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds told The Race. “The fact that they decided to double down their efforts in our championship, even at a time where they would acknowledge they’re going through some pretty challenging periods as a manufacturer, then to make the investment and to double down in our championship is massively gratifying for us.
“I think it is a really strong sign of their confidence in the championship.”

NHRA: It was a complicated situation over the weekend, as the typically-sunny Pomona Dragstrip in California was pelted by consistent rain. Race officials looked for a solution, nut ultimately had to cancel the season finale after qualifying. Doug Kalitta had already clinched the Top Fuel title at that stage, but Austin Prock (Funny Car), Dallas Glenn (Pro Stock) and Richard Gadson (Pro Stock Motorcycle) secured their championships with the decision. Mark Martin is perhaps NASCAR’s most recognizable star without a championship, having come up second in the final standings five times from 1990 through 2009. The 1990 season was his closest to championship success - an early season penalty proved the difference in a 26-point loss to Dale Earnhardt - but no campaign was more impressive than 1998, when Martin won a career-high seven times and notched 22 top-fives in 33 races for an 8.6 average finish.
The only issue? The run coincided with the best season for Jeff Gordon, who tallied 13 wins and an incredible 5.7 average finish. Martin’s 150.42 points per race would have won the title in each of the three prior seasons.
