Race Recaps
NASCAR
Cup Series: It’s been the trend of the year on road courses. He didn’t lead early, but Shane van Gisbergen got to the front when it counted and marched off to a comfortable, redemptive win at Watkins Glen International. It was his fourth victory of the year. (Holly Cain / NASCAR.com)

Xfinity Series: Saturday was a chaotic day for the NASCAR field. Two nasty wrecks marred the race itself, but the true fright of the day occurred afterward.
Connor Zilisch prevailed in the race, getting the better of contact with van Gisbergen and surviving a late restart challenge from Sammy Smith for another victory. But the win came with dramatic repercussions, as the 19-year-old slipped while standing atop his car in victory lane and took a nasty spill. (Holly Cain / NASCAR.com)

He appeared to be knocked out and the TV broadcast cut away afterward. Thankfully, CT scans later showed no issues with his head after a trip to a local hospital, but Zilisch did break his collarbone in the fall.
Trackhouse Racing pulled his No. 87 out of Sunday’s Cup race. His timetable for an Xfinity Series return is uncertain. He currently holds a slim points lead over JR Motorsports teammate Justin Allgaier and the series returns in two weeks at Daytona International Speedway.
Before the fall, Zilisch’s most dramatic moment was his controversial crash with van Gisbergen.

A returning Austin Hill also made more drama, kicking off a massive crash on lap 74 after contact with Michael McDowell that he immediately regretted.

Craftsman Truck Series: Try as they might - and boy did they, through three overtimes in a sloppy late battle - the Truck Series field had nothing for Corey Heim at Watkins Glen. This season’s dominant driver held off Daniel Hemric in an intense, clean late battle for a .202s win.

ARCA Menards Series: The weekend-opening race at Watkins Glen was utterly dominated by Brent Crews. But when his car stalled out under caution in the closing laps, a debuting Tristan McKee took advantage for his first series victory.
He was born in 2010, by the way. Just in case you didn’t feel old.

ARCA Menards Series West: After a handful of close calls earlier in the year, Kyle Keller snuck by leader Jake Bollman on a late restart to snag an emotional first series victory at Tri-City Raceway. (Brandon White / ARCARacing.com)

IndyCar
IndyCar: With an uncertain future amid a dismal year for Team Penske, there was reason to think Will Power might lose hope for the final races of 2025. But with just three races left in what could be his final contract with the organization, Power surged ahead early and survived intense pressure for Christian Lundgaard and Alex Palou late for his 45th-career series victory in Portland. (Paul Kelly / IndyCar.com)

While Power took the checkered flag, all eyes were on Palou in third. The Spaniard’s podium finish clinched his fourth IndyCar title with two races to spare - an effort aided by mechanical woes for Pato O’Ward. (Aaron Bearden / Motorsport)

Indy NXT: He isn’t clear for the title like Palou just yet, but Dennis Hauger dominated in Portland to come one step closer to an Indy NXT championship.

Number of the Day: 2.0
Shane van Gisbergen notched his fourth-consecutive road course Cup triumph Sunday at Watkins Glen. His lone loss on a road course came at Circuit of the Americas in March, where he finished sixth. All told, the Kiwi has an average finish of 2.0 and has led 244 laps in the five road course races to date. Just one Roval race to go.
