  •  Joey Logano wins at Phoenix: #22-Joey Logano won the Can-Am 500(k) Sprint Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway running 12 extra laps in two NASCAR Overtimes for his 3rd win of the season, 1st win at Phoenix and 17th career win. Logano led 58 of the 324 laps.
    #18-Busch finished 2nd followed by #42-Larson, #4-Harvick, #41-Busch, #88-Bowman (pole winner), #11-Hamlin, #21-Blaney, #24-Elliott and #27-Menard.
With two laps to go and #20-Kenseth having a 3 second lead over #88-Bowman, #95-McDowell spun out and hit the wall bring out the caution with a lap to go in the race. NASCAR Overtime was implemented and after the cleanup the race restarted on lap 314 with Kenseth on the outside lane and #88-Bowman on the inside. On the restart 3rd place #18-Busch tried to get around #88-Bowman and bumped the #88 Chevy, causing it to wiggle and go low. The leader, #20-Kenseth was just ahead of Bowman and appeared to come down on the #88, who had no place to go with the inside wall to his left, making contact causing Kenseth's car to spin out and hitting the wall. #22-Logano took the lead and the field was again placed under caution. After the track was cleaned #22-Logano led the field to the green with #18-Busch in 2nd. Logano took the lead and held on to it with Busch finishing 2nd. Kenseth, who looked like he was going to win and advance to the Championship 4, finished 21st and was eliminated from The Chase. Logano's win allowed him to advance to the Championship 4 and Kyle Busch made it on points in the 4th and final spot.
#88-Bowman, the pole winner, led the most laps with 194 and was up front for most of the race until tangling with Kenseth on the first NASCAR Overtime restart, finishing 6th.
#48-Johnson had run in the top 10 early in the race before having to serving a penalty (losing a lap) for "Pulling up to pit", hence passing the caution car as entering pit road. On lap 219, #3-Dillon had a slow restart with #16-Biffle getting into the back of the #3 and causing Dillon's car to spin. When Biffle checked up, #48-Johnson hit the #16 car hard, doing serious damage to the car. Johnson was able to get the car repaired and run another 77 laps but finished 38th. Since Johnson had already won a race in the Round of 8, he advanced in the Chase to the Championship 4 at Homestead.
Four drivers advance to the CHAMPIONSHIP Race of the Chase at Homestead: #48-Johnson, #19-Edwards, #22-Logano, #18-Busch.
    Eliminated from the Chase: #11-Hamlin, #20-Kenseth, #4-Harvick, #41-Busch.
There were 8 lead changes among 5 drivers and 9 cautions for 53 yellow flag laps.

  • Restrictor-plate engines in Indy XFINITY race? NASCAR is considering a major experiment to see if it can improve the racing entertainment at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where there has been precious few green-flag passes for the lead in recent years. The sanction is considering use of restrictor-plate engines in next year's second-tier Xfinity Series event at IMS, azcentral sports has learned. Plate engines, which restrict engine horsepower, are only mandated at the high-speed banked Daytona and Talladega superspeedways. If tried, and if deemed successful, plate engines could be used for the 2018 Brickyard 400 - still arguably Cup's second-most prestigious race after the Daytona 500.(Arizona Republic)(11-14-2016)
  • Kenseth's race win and championship hopes evaporate in late accident: In one moment, #20-Matt Kenseth was leading Sunday's Can-Am 500 at Phoenix and seemed destined to race for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship next Sunday at Homestead. A moment later, he was wrecked and out of the Chase. Kenseth led the field to green on the first attempt at overtime, with polesitter #88-Alex Bowman to his inside. #18-Kyle Busch made a move to the inside of Bowman from the third position, and Bowman blocked. As Busch shoved Bowman's Chevy forward toward the first corner, Kenseth turned down, thinking his Toyota had a clear lane. But contact between the cars sent Kenseth spinning out of the Championship 4. "The 88 (Bowman) was laying way, way back for that restart, more than a car width, so I got going early on purpose and I looked at him at the start/finish line, and I thought we were doing OK. And I looked back, and it looked like he had a little run on me, maybe not and shortly thereafter (spotter) Chris (Osborne) cleared me. So with the glare, I started looking to the corner to approach the corner and I got turned out of the way. He hollered 'Inside' at the same time I got turned towards the fence, so I really don't know what happened. I was just going off the information I had to try to get the best corner I could and lead more laps."(NASCAR Wire Service)(11-14-2016)

  • Monster Energy Cup? Monster Energy Drink is a finalist to become the new entitlement sponsor for NASCAR's premier Cup series. While other companies remain in contention, Monster is in an advanced stage of negotiations with NASCAR to replace Sprint. Monster has served as a the primary sponsor on driver Kurt Busch's #41 Cup car at Stewart-Haas Racing since 2015. Should Monster emerge as the new Cup sponsor, its decision is not expected to have an immediate impact on Busch's #41 sponsorship. Monster Corporation is an American beverage company, owned by Coca-Cola, and based in Corona, Calif. As of May 2015, Monster held nearly 39% of the U.S. energy drink market.(Motorsport)(11-13-2016)
  • Harvick not happy with lack of Stewart 'credit': after qualifying at Phoenix International Raceway on Friday, #4-Kevin Harvick was asked:
    Q) WHAT DO YOU THINK OF TONY RETIRING IN TWO RACES AND WHAT HIS LEGACY IS GOING TO BE HERE?
Harvick: "It's not going to be what it should be because I don't think anybody did a very good job of giving him the credit that he deserved throughout the year at the race tracks and from a sports standpoint. That has been very disappointing from my standpoint. I know that Tony probably would say that he didn't want that but I don't think anybody has done a very good job of giving him the credit for the time that he has put in and had in the sport. A three-time champion, multiple race winner, IndyCar champion and winner and to auto racing in general. It's been pretty disheartening to me to see the lack of credit that he has gotten."(Team Chevy Qualifying Notes and Quotes)(11-13-2016)

Toyota wins 2016 manufacturer's championship: Toyota captured the 2016 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) manufacturer's championship with Daniel Suarez's victory at Phoenix International Raceway on Friday night.
Tundra drivers won 13-of-23 races to date to capture the NCWTS manufacturer's championship one week prior to the season finale at Homestead Miami Speedway. This is the ninth NCWTS manufacturer's championship for Toyota in 13 seasons since the Tundra joined Truck Series competition in 2004.
Three Tundra teams - Kyle Busch Motorsports, Red Horse Racing and ThorSport Racing - all contributed victories to the NCWTS manufacturer's title this season, including wins by rookie William Byron (six victories), Matt Crafton (two), Kyle Busch (two), Christopher Bell (one), Brett Moffitt (one) and Daniel Suarez (one). After 22-of-23 races, Tundra drivers combined to win 13 races and lead 1,997 laps in the NCWTS - more than 50 percent of the races and laps contested.
Following the Truck Series race at Phoenix, three Tundra drivers - Bell, Crafton and Timothy Peters - qualified for the 'Championship 4' field and will compete for the NCWTS driver's championship in the season finale. In addition to winning the NCWTS manufacturer's title and having an opportunity to capture the Truck Series driver's championship, Toyota is also in contention for the driver's and manufacturer's titles in both the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and NASCAR XFINITY Series. Since joining NCWTS competition in 2004, Toyota has won 157 races and captured 118 poles in 311 races. Kyle Busch (38) has the most victories driving a Tundra. Toyota also claimed manufacturer championships in the following seasons -- 2006 (12 wins); 2007 (13 wins); 2008 (13 wins); 2009 (14 wins); 2010 (15 wins); 2013 (13 wins); 2014 (18 wins) and 2015 (14 wins).(Toyota Racing)(11-11-2016)
