Track Trash: 2011 Daytona 500
by Racing Maniac

What a tremendous bit of driving by Trevor Bayne. Twenty years old, and he drove the entire race like a seasoned veteran.

He needs a solid drive for the rest of the year, and one can only hope that it all falls into place within the next week or two.

Looking in the Rearview Mirror: Daytona
by Heather Meyer

I’m sure as the changes were announced for this year in NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt and Jim Hunter debated the issue. As Speed Weeks arrived, the debate heated up.

“Tandem racing” grumbled Dale, “… not what the fans want to see”.

Hunter countered, ”NASCAR will adjust things so it’s not boring.”

After the Duels they both agreed it wasn’t as bad as they thought it would be

Vision Aviation Racing Penalties Announced

On Wednesday, NASCAR announced penalties against Vision Aviation Racing stemming from the right side of the rear spoiler tilting downward on the run to the finish Friday night in Daytona.  NASCAR has fined crew chief Doug Howe $25,000 and placed him on probation through December 31.  In addition, listed team owner Billy Ballew has been docked 25 owners' points.  Since Michael Waltrip is ineligible to earn driver's points in the Camping World Truck Series, no point penalty was levied on him.  The win will stand.

In its brief statement, NASCAR stated that the No. 15 violated Sections 12-1 (Actions Detrimental to Stock Car Racing), 12-4-J (Determination by a NASCAR official that equipment does not conform to the rules), and 20B-3.1.2E (Rear Spoiler failed to meet specifications in post-race inspection).  No mention was made of the spoiler braces and whether they were in compliance with NASCAR regulations.

Evernham Sues George Gillett

ESPN.com's David Newton is reporting that Ray Evernham, now employed by Hendrick Performance Parts as a consultant, has filed a $19.3 million dollar lawsuit in North Carolina Superior Court in Mecklenburg County (Charlotte) against Booth Creek Management and Gillett GEMS, LLC.  The lawsuit states that Gillett breached the terms of the purchase by not paying Evernham the remaining 20 percent of what he is owed.

Gillett GEMS is a small corporation led by George Gillett, Jr., that bought a majority interest in the race team formerly known as Evernham Motorsports from Evernham in 2007.  At the time, Evernham stayed on as a minority owner, but had limited involvement with the team.

Evernham appears to have entered into the legal proceedings by force.  He didn't want to do it, but had to.

"We have diligently worked to resolve this matter in good faith without resorting to legal action," Evernham said.  "We were unable to come to a fair resolution for the amounts due to me related to my sale of the previous RPM race team. Like many other vendors and creditors, my claims have been left unpaid."

Evernham is just one of many creditors that is owed money by Gillett.  Despite selling off the Liverpool Football Club for $478 million (taking a substantial loss in the process), his ski resort holdings to Vail Resorts (which he had owned himself back in the 1980's) and Richard Petty Motorsports at the end of 2010, Gillett is in near financial ruin.

Kenny Wallace Gets New Nationwide Sponsor

With many teams still struggling for sponsorship in the Nationwide Series, one team experienced a breakthrough this week. Family Farmers will sponsor fan favorite Kenny Wallace in five NASCAR Nationwide Series events this season, RAB Racing with Brack Maggard announced Tuesday afternoon.  The deal also includes a promotional partnership that includes Wallace as a company spokesperson. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed in the team’s official press release.

“Getting to know the hard working family farmers of the country has been a fantastic experience for me,” Wallace said. “I’m so excited to be their spokesperson, sharing true knowledge about what they do and the products and food that are made from their crops.”

The first race of the primary sponsorship deal will be this weekend’s Bashas’ Supermarkets 200 at Phoenix International Raceway.

Bayne to stick with Nationwide Series

Despite NASCAR informing the youngest Daytona 500 champion in NASCAR history that he could “change his mind” and begin earning points for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Trevor Bayne said Tuesday he has decided to continue earning points in the Nationwide Series.

NASCAR informed Bayne that if he decided to switch series, he would still earn no points for his Daytona 500 victory, but could use the win towards a possible Chase qualification through NASCAR’s new Chase qualifying procedure.

Bayne is running a part-time schedule with Woods Brothers Racing in the Sprint Cup Series this season while running a full-time schedule in Nationwide. Because new rules implemented for this season allow a driver to earn championship points in only one NASCAR national touring series, Bayne opted to earn points in the Nationwide Series for Roush Fenway Racing.

While the team still plans to keep to their part-time schedule, team co-owner Eddie Wood told USA Today that he had received multiple sponsorship offers hours after the victory.

"The only thing that changed is that we get to be the Daytona 500 champions, which is really, really incredible," Bayne said on a Tuesday conference call with national media. "But I think that we're still going to have an awesome year at Roush Fenway, running for that Nationwide championship."

"Obviously, they (Roush) have still got a blank car, and I'd love to get some partners on it, but as for now, we're still running full-time, and the Wood Brothers only have 18 races. ... I don't regret any of our decisions there. We're off to a good start in both series with a 10th (in Saturday's Drive4COPD 300 Nationwide event) and a first."

Kenseths welcome baby girl to family

Matt Kenseth’s wife Katie gave birth to their third child – and second daughter – early Tuesday morning. Grace Katherine Kenseth weighed seven pounds and eight ounces at birth.  She was born at 3:45 AM ET.

Grace joins daughter Kaylin and son Ross in the Kenseth household. According to a press release by Roush Fenway Racing, both mother and daughter are doing fine

That's why, every week, Jay Pennell will sort through the thousands of messages and give us a little taste of what's going on each Wednesday.

@landoncassill (Landon Cassill) That looked like a C class @iracing truck race. The 9th truck in line caused a wreck that the 3rd truck in line somehow got wrapped up in.

@Just_AP  #3

@RTruex00 (Ryan Truex) I think this will be one of the most exciting seasons in all 3 series

@Just_AP I just have to wonder what Nascar was thinking. Slow the cars down for safety. So instead of 202mph we will just blow engines at 198mph

@drlynnechiro (Dr. Lynne Allmendinger) I think the spotters should get overtime or time and a half pay today!!!

@conniemontoya (Connie Montoya) if #NASCAR wanted an amazing race they got it!!!!!!!

@31n2Spotter (Brett Griffin) FOX is doing a great job covering the in-car audio with drivers. If u don't like this broadcast set ur TV on fire cause its u!!

@31n2Spotter 6 should b black flagged. Changed lanes b 4 start

@maxpapis (Max Papis) Not the right decision to penalize #6 I disagree with this as other times was different

@KevinHarvick (Kevin Harvick) Holy crap that is awesome for that kid!!!!!!

@HermieSadler (Hermie Sadler) Happy for Trevor Bayne. Happier for The Wood Brothers for persevering. Someone step up and get them back full-time!!

@landoncassill Here's to teams taking young drivers instead of recycled drivers and winning races. #trevorbayne this is good for all of us. @tbayne21

@Just_AP The kids are talking to ya NASCAR world! Let's get them some full time rides! @Tbayne21 @landoncassill The future is here!

@jaybusbee (Jay Busbee) Really, really sick of these Nationwide drivers coming over and taking wins away from hardworking Sprint Cup drivers."

@ALGilliland (Amanda Gilliland, sister of David Gilliland) Seriously Fox.. .you don't interview the 3rd place finisher!?! WOW ya that's bad.

@31n2Spotter Same spotter Bowyer wanted thrown off the roof with Danica yesterday won the Daytona 500. What a difference a day makes. #nascar

@Tjmajors (TJ Majors) Sittin here watching airplanes take off. I think it'd be easier to coordinate these planes.

@RTruex00 By the way, MWR didn’t pick me in favor of @tbayne21 like everyone thinks, they parted ways and had to put someone in the car for end of 2010

@mw55 (Michael Waltrip) Everyone at MWR congrats Trev. We knew he was special. He proved it to us way before today. Today he proved it to the world

@David_Ragan (David Ragan) Is Phoenix here yet? The sooner I can get the UPS Ford in victory lane the easier it will be to forget this one.

@mw55 I think you should pick what series championship you want to compete for after 5 races.

@jaywpennell (Jay W. Pennell) Your 2011 Daytona 500 champion Trevor Bayne is not even listed in the 2011 #NASCAR Media Guide....

@Tbayne21 (Trevor Bayne) Sayyyy what! I'm blown away at how amazing God's plan is! 500 winner :) can't believe it!

Ray Evernham Sues Former Partner Gillett

Ray Evernham has filed a $19 million lawsuit against companies operated by former partner George Gillett over unpaid shares of the former Richard Petty Motorsports. Evernham, who sold the majority of his Evernham Motorsports team to Gillett in 2007, filed the lawsuit in North Carolina Superior Court in Charlotte. The Gillett company that ran the race team, Gillett GEMS, as well as Gillett’s Booth Creek Management Corporation, are listed as the defendants. Having remained a minority owner in Gillett Evernham Motorsports as well as Richard Petty Motorsports after the Gillett Evernham-Petty Enterprises merger in 2009, Evernham in his complaint asks for $19,183,203 he claims he is owed after the sale of RPM last November to Richard Petty and a group of investors. In his lawsuit, Evernham claims that once RPM was sold, it triggered clauses in his agreements with Gillett for him to be paid that money. According to the complaint, creditors of the old RPM have been told there are not sufficient funds for reimbursement. “We have diligently worked to resolve this matter in good faith without resorting to legal action,” Evernham said in a statement. “This matter has been pending for a period of time and we did not want to disrupt any excitement of the beginning of the race season with this unfortunate situation. • Evernham suing Gillett: Ray Evernham has filed a lawsuit seeking $19.3 millon from the man who purchased the majority interest of Evernham Motorsports from him in 2007. The suit, filed on Tuesday in North Carolina Superior Court in Mecklenburg County, was filed against Booth Creek Management and Gillett GEMS, LLC for money not paid in the sale. Gillett GEMS, LLC is a corporation of four members that includes George Gillett Jr., who purchased Evernham Motorsports, which later became Gillett Evernham Motorsports and then Richard Petty Motorsports. Evernham charges in the suit that Gillett breached an agreement to pay the remaining 20 percent owed for the Sprint Cup organization.(ESPN.com)(2-24-2011)
  • Forbes names most valuable NASCAR teams & highest paid drivers: The weak economy has pummeled NASCAR over the past three years, with sponsorships, merchandise sales, race winnings and subsidies from automakers falling. Fans have tuned out, sending TV ratings down 24% since 2006 and leaving more than 40,000 empty seats at some races last year. One of its longest-tenured teams, Richard Petty Motorsports, was scrambling for cash on a week-to-week basis so it could race on weekends last fall. Is NASCAR headed for a full-blown meltdown? Hardly. Yes, the value of the top 10 teams slid 5% in 2010, on average, to $136 million by [Forbes] count, as prize money dropped and sponsors dialed back their commitment, but a rebound in 2011 for the sport is a strong possibility. NASCAR's strongest and most valuable team remains Hendrick Motorsports. With a valuation of $350 million on revenues of $177 million in 2010, Hendrick is worth 56% more than the next-highest-grossing team, Roush Fenway Racing, which [Forbes] value at $224 million on revenues of $140 million last year. Hendrick earned a NASCAR-high $18 million in operating income (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) in 2010. Richard Childress Racing was third on the list, followed by Joe Gibbs Racing and Penske Racing. Rounding out the top 10: Stewart-Haas, Michael Waltrip Racing, Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing, Richard Petty Motorsports, and Red Bull Racing.
AND: Despite his lack of success in recent years on the track, Dale Earnhardt Jr. remains NASCAR's highest-paid driver, earning $29 million in 2010 thanks to merchandise sales that are the best in the sport and reportedly account for one-third of all NASCAR licensed merchandise sales. Other income streams include a 10-figure annual salary from Hendrick and a 50% share of his $4.9 million in winnings and bonuses in 2010 from Sprint Cup races. Earnhardt also has a bevy of personal endorsements, including Chevrolet, Nationwide and Wrangler. Hendrick teammate Jeff Gordon follows Earnhardt in the NASCAR money standings with earnings of $25 million last year. It is a clean sweep for Hendrick at the top with five-time Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson, the third-highest-paid driver at $24 million. The rest of the top 10: Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, Kasey Kahne, Denny Hamlin, and Matt Kenseth.(

  • Tommy Baldwin Racing gets Phoenix sponsor: Oklahoma-based Accell Construction will partner with Tommy Baldwin Racing for the Subway Fresh Fit 500 Sunday. Dave Blaney will pilot the #36 Accell Construction Chevy in the Sprint Cup Series event at Phoenix. Accell Construction is a full-service site civil contractor for the petroleum terminal and bulk storage industries. The Oklahoma company specializes in tank farm construction, tank foundations and other related site civil construction. The 20-year old company operates civil construction projects in numerous states across the U.S. Although this will be the first NSCS race for Accell Construction, the company partnered with teams in the NASCAR Camping World Series and ARCA Racing Series in the past.(TBR)(2-24-2011)
  • Edward to jump off the Stratosphere: #99-Carl Edwards, winner of Las Vegas Motor Speedway's 2008 Sprint Cup race, will be in Las Vegas on Thursday for appearances in advance of the Kobalt Tools 400. Part of his schedule during the afternoon includes a jump at Sky Jump Las Vegas. The skyjump is best described as a "controlled freefall." Lucky adrenaline junkies and average Joes alike, will have the opportunity to plummet 855 feet at a scream-inducing speed of up to 40 mph - all while enjoying breathtaking views of the world famous Las Vegas Strip. SkyJump Las Vegas will offer a way to experience thrills similar to skydiving and base jumping - with the added benefit of doing it over the Las Vegas Strip - day or night.(Las Vegas Motor Speedway)(2-24-2011)
  • Safety-Kleen Renews Partnership With NASCAR: NASCAR announced that it has reached a multi-year agreement to renew its relationship with Safety-Kleen as an official partner of the sport. Safety-Kleen, a NASCAR official partner since 2004, provides on-site trackside support with its NASCAR performance cleaning products and through its oil recycling and re-refining services to more than 200 NASCAR-sanctioned races a year, ensuring that all cleaning solvents, oil, fluids and lubricants used in NASCAR racing are recaptured and re-used. Safety-Kleen is also an "Official Partner of NASCAR Green," a category of sponsors that contribute in a substantial and measurable way to the sport's goals around environmental conservation and serve as a green demonstration platform while creating jobs.(NASCAR)(2-24-2011

Racecar driver TREVOR BAYNE makes an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" airing Thursday, February 24th. The 20-year-old became the youngest driver to win the Daytona 500 this past Sunday and chats with Ellen about the race and beating Jeff Gordon's record!

On racing for three hours straight...

Ellen: How do you stay so alert?

Trevor: That was one of the most mentally draining races I've ever been in because of the way the drafting was. You can see in that video clip that it was two cars the entire time pushing each other. My mom gets scared when she rides with me in the car and I get within 30 feet from a car on the interstate. So you can imagine how draining that was. Those racecars are really hot. It's like sitting in a sauna if you can imagine sitting in a sauna for three hours. It's kind of what we go through. It's tough. Racing is a tough sport. It's tough to get wins like that.

Ellen: What if you have to pee?

Trevor: You're in trouble if you have to pee.

Ellen: You can't drink anything beforehand. You want to stay hydrated but three hours to be in a car is long.

Trevor: We lose about ten pounds of water weight throughout a race but we have water there that we can drink there. You're sweating a lot.

Ellen: You have a cup holder in your car?

Trevor: Some cars do actually...But if you have to pee you're in trouble. You just have to hold it till the end.

Ellen: Then you're going faster.

Trevor: Exactly.

On beating Jeff Gordon's record of being the youngest winner of Daytona 500...

Ellen: You beat your hero's record. What does that feel like?

Trevor: It's just incredible. It's a dream come true. Jeff Gordon actually helped us out all weekend...It's so cool to see your childhood hero congratulate you and be a part of it. I feel kind of bad for breaking his record there. I hope he still wants to be my friend. It's cool to be a part of it.

On winning the race...

Trevor: The Daytona 500, to me, has always meant a lot. I grew up wanting to win it as a kid but I didn't know it meant this much to the rest of the world so to see these kind of fans and this crazy stuff going on, I love it.

Ellen: You must have girls all of a sudden going crazy over you because you're adorable and now you're getting all this attention. You getting proposals and stuff like that all ready?

Trevor: Well, I didn't have a Valentine this year so I'm hoping for better things next year.

Ellen: You will. I think you'll be okay.

NASCARHomeTracks.com To Feature Live Race Audio Streaming

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 23, 2011) — NASCAR announced today that NASCARHomeTracks.com will feature live internet radio broadcasts of 32 touring series events, beginning with Thursday’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series West season-opener at Phoenix International Raceway.

NASCARHomeTracks.com is NASCAR.com’s official home for touring and weekly series news and results. The live radio broadcasts will be provided by the team from Speed 51 Radio, headed by SPEED announcer Bob Dillner.

The broadcasts will feature flag-to-flag coverage of many of the top events in NASCAR’s touring series, including the championship season finales in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to bring the racing action at our short tracks to fans across North America,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR managing director of racing operations. “There is no substitute for being at the race track, but this is yet another avenue for fans to follow their favorite drivers and series wherever they may be.”

Among the highlights on the broadcast schedule include the annual combination race for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series on May 21 at Iowa Speedway, and the first NASCAR Whelen Modified/NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour special event on Sept. 11 at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway.

The announcement comes on the heels of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series kickoff, which saw NASCAR K&N Pro Series alum Trevor Bayne capture the Daytona 500. The broadcasts provide fans a unique opportunity to following the next wave of stars as they gain valuable experience competing in NASCAR’s regional touring series.

"This is a unique opportunity NASCAR is providing its fans, teams and marketing partners and we are excited to be part of it,” Dillner said. “I was there for the inaugural NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season back in 1985 and we (Speed 51 Radio) all have a lot of experience with each of the touring series. We all have a passion for this and we hope that is portrayed this year on the NASCAR Hometracks Radio broadcasts."

Speed 51 Radio has extensive experience broadcasting short-track racing and hosted a live fan event with the NASCAR champions last December in Charlotte, N.C. Dillner and Elgin Traylor will broadcast the Phoenix race, while Dillner and Speed 51 Radio’s Matt Kentfield were part of the team that hosted the pre-event web broadcasts of the NASCAR Touring Series Night of Champions Awards Gala and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Awards Banquet on NASCARHomeTracks.com in December

RIDING SHOTGUN WITH KYLE BUSCH MOTORSPORTS” ESSAY CONTEST ANNOUNCED FOR CHILDREN IN NASHVILLE AREA

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Feb. 23, 2011) – A motivational letter that Kyle Busch received during the off season from Kyle Savoie (sa-VOY), a 12-year old fan, has inspired Busch to develop a program that will recognize children for experiences and achievements that had a positive effect on their lives.

The “Riding Shotgun With Kyle Busch Motorsports” Essay Contest will allow one Nashville child, age five to 12, to have a decal with their name and 2.5” x 3.5” photo above the passenger window of Busch’s No. 18 Dollar General Toyota for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Nashville Superspeedway on Friday, April 22. Additionally, the winner of the Nashville essay contest will receive a $100 gift card from Busch’s primary sponsor for the race Goodlettsville-Tenn. based Dollar General.

The message behind Kyle Savoie’s letter was how dreams are important and to never give up on your dreams,” reflected Busch. “He even sent us his five dollar-allowance with the letter in an effort to help support our KBM truck team.  He suggested that if other kids followed his lead, they could serve as the sponsor for a race.  In return, he suggested that we would put their names and school pictures on the truck. I obviously don’t want kids to send us their allowances, but I loved the idea of recognizing kids for positive experiences and achievements by putting their name and picture on my truck!  Too many stories in the news these days are about negative issues. This essay contest will be a great way to create a positive news story with the help of children in Nashville.”

To recognize Kyle Savoie for inspiring the contest, a decal with his name and picture adorned the area above the passenger window of the No. 18 Dollar General Toyota Tundra driven by Busch in the season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 18.

Nashville is the first of 10 races throughout the 2011 season that an essay contest winner will follow in Savoie’s footsteps and “Ride Shotgun” with Kyle Busch Motorsports. The other races scheduled are Dover (May 13), Kansas (June 4), Kentucky (July 7), Michigan (Aug. 20), Bristol (Aug. 24), Chicagoland (Sep. 16), Talladega (Oct. 22), Texas (Nov. 4) and Homestead-Miami (Nov. 18).

The topic of the essay is to describe an experience and/or achievement that occurred in the last 12 months that has affected your life in a positive way using 150 words or less. The deadline to submit an essay for the Nashville race is April 8, 2011. Entries can be submitted via email to es...@kylebuschmotorsports.com or mailed in to:

  • Daytona TV Ratings: Last year's telecast of the NASCAR Nationwide Series season opener at Daytona International Speedway on ESPN2, which featured the NASCAR debut of Danica Patrick, set a record as the most-viewed Nationwide Series race ever on cable and ended the year as the highest-rated program of any kind on ESPN2. The telecast earned a final national household coverage rating of 2.4, even with the 2009 telecast but down from the 3.2 rating for last year's record-setting event. The telecast averaged 3,246,875 viewers and saw an increase of eight percent in the Male 18-34 demographic over last year, with a jump of 43 percent from 2009. The telecast averaged 2,437,211 household impressions, third-largest ever on cable for the NASCAR Nationwide Series. The viewership number was the fifth-largest ever on cable for the series.(ESPN)(2-23-2011)

·         Ren enjoying new role with KBM: Excerpt from Charlotte Observer story: From racing dirt tracks in the Midwest to sitting high atop Kyle Busch's pit box in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Mooresville resident Rick Ren has come full circle in racing. Ren, General Manager and Director of Competition for Kyle Busch Motorsports, is the all-time winningest crew chief in truck series history. Ren's record-setting number of truck series wins stands at 27 to go along with two championships as a crew chief. Despite the success, when another opportunity came calling, Ren gave up being a crew chief after the 2009 season with Kevin Harvick Inc. to take what he said was a great opportunity at Kyle Busch Motorsports. Ren now wears a number of different hats with KBM, but loves the challenge. "I'm dealing with sponsors, attorneys and all the little things that come with being a GM of a company," said Ren. Ren designed the race chassis and bodies, his forte over the years, while also directing his crew at the track. Success came quickly for Ren in his new role. Last year, Kyle Busch claimed the truck series owner's championship, setting the bar early for what would be expected season after season from KBM. Suffering from a gastro intestinal infection, Chase Mattioli, took himself out of the truck [#99 Ford] at Daytona and put in Chad McCumbee. Unfortunately, mechanical issues ended the day early. Joining CollegeComplete.com on Chase's Ford at Phoenix will be Grand Canyon University and Anthem College. Chase's longtime supporters will also be featured on the truck at Phoenix including Advance Payment Services, Green Tree Environmental Consultants, Howard University's WHUR 96.3 FMand Papillon& Moyer Construction.(Chase Mattioli PR)(2-24-2011)

·         NASCAR penalizes #15 team for violations at Daytona: NASCAR has issued penalties and fines to the No. 15 team that competes in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, as a result of rule infractions found during post-race inspection Feb. 18 at Daytona International Speedway. The No. 15 truck driven by Michael Waltrip was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-J (any determination by NASCAR Officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20B-3.1.2E (rear spoiler did not meet specifications in post-race inspection) of the 2011 NASCAR Rule Book. As a result, crew chief Doug Howe has been fined $25,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31. Owner Billy Ballew has been penalized with the loss of 25 championship owner points.(NASCAR Integrated marketing Communications)(2-23-2011)

·         Germain.com returns to Bodine's #30 at PIR:Todd Bodine returns with the No. 30 Germain.com Tundra for the week's Lucas Oil 150 at Phoenix International Raceway. He and the Germain Racing crew also have a new game plan for racing at this desert venue. "We are going to Phoenix with a little bit different plan. We tested at Disney World in the off season. The track isn't close enough that we learned anything specifically for Phoenix International Raceway, but we learned some things that should help us in general," explained Bodine. "We've run well at Phoenix in the past. We have one win there. Over the last couple years, we haven't run really well. We've kind of gone away from our setup and we aren't sure what's happened. This time, we're going there with a different philosophy and our best Germain.com Tundra hoping to see if we can make that work." Bodine has raced seven Truck Series races at Phoenix International Raceway. All have been behind the wheel of the No. 30 with Germain Racing and the pairing has produced one win, three top-five and four top-ten finishes. This Friday night, he'll compete in his 167th Truck Series race when he fires up the Germain.com Tundra for the 2nd race of the 2011 season. Bodine has 729 NASCAR career starts to date.(Germain Racing PR)(2-23-2011)
