Reports: Lawson Out, Tsunoda In at Red Bull Racing (F1)
Liam Lawson’s time as a Red Bull Racing driver may prove to be short-lived.
The reports follow a brutal start to Lawson’s Red Bull tenure, with two Q1 exits and no points earned through the opening pair of races. The reports indicate that Honda, a longtime Tsunoda backer, is prepared to pay millions for Tsunoda to inherit the seat.
Lawson took over the Red Bull ride after an eventful year of driver swaps. The New Zealander took over the second Racing Bulls seat from Daniel Ricciardo midseason in 2024 after serving as an injury fill-in for the Australian in the prior year. He was then
chosen over Tsunoda for elevation to Red Bull heading into the 2025 campaign, replacing Sergio Perez after the Mexican star struggled through the 2024 campaign.
Lead Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has won the past four F1 titles, but Red Bull lost the constructors title in 2024 and is off to a poor start in 2025 with Lawson’s struggles. Verstappen sits second in the standings through two races but has acknowledged
that the current car is a challenge to drive. Tsunoda has managed three points so far for Racing Bulls, leaving him 13th in the standings.
