Ralf Aron suffered back fractures in Bathurst horror crash (Sports Cars)
Days after his horror crash during Sunday’s Bathurst 12 Hour, Mercedes-AMG factory driver Ralf Aron has confirmed that he sustained two fractures in his back.
Aron was leading in the race’s ninth hour for Craft-Bamboo Racing when he collided with the stopped Porsche 911 GT3 R of Johannes Zelger just before Mount Panorama Circuit’s Forest Elbow section. The crash was vicious, showering the racing surface with debris and yielding a sizable red flag for cleanup.

Both drivers exited their cars under their own power, but Aron was transported to a local hospital after an evaluation at the track’s medical center.
“Considering the circumstances, I am doing fine and my condition is stable,” Aron said on social media. “I suffered two fractures in my back, but I have full movement and sensation throughout my body, which I am very grateful for. Also very happy to see that Johannes Zelger was able to walk away from the crash.
The crash has generated significant controversy, with many debating the quality of the event’s race officials given how long the incident took to break out.
Both Craft-Bamboo and Aron have requested statements asking for explanations from race control. Motorsport Australia has confirmed that it is reviewing the events that led to the incident.
“The situation in Bathurst was a serious one, and for that reason I would like to have a meeting and open discussion with race control to share my perspective,” Aron said. “This is not about pointing fingers. It is about understanding what happened and making sure we can prevent situations like this in the future, so that racing at this beautiful track can be as safe as possible for everyone.
“I will work super hard to be back behind the wheel as soon as possible and hopefully have another crack at the mountain next year!”

 Government rejects MotoGP venue shift; Dorna rebranded (MotoGP)
Imagine you’re a worldwide racing series trying to establish season schedules and wanting to swap one of your current venues for another in the same country.
Now picture the country’s government saying “no.”
The Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix is synonymous with Phillip Island, and Victoria is proud to support it,” the Victorian Government said in a statement. “Today the Allan Labor Government ruled out a request from Dorna Sports to move the event from Phillip Island to Albert Park.
“As regional Australia’s biggest international sporting event, the Motorcycle GP brings tens of thousands of visitors to Phillip Island every year.
“It’s good for tourism, good for local businesses, and good for jobs.”
MotoGP’s current contract with the Victorian Government is set to expire at the end of the 2026 season. The race takes place in October.
While the lack of a move is disappointing for Dorna on principle, it could lead to improvements to the Phillip Island circuit. Speedcafe reported that a new pit complex is being considered if the event remains at the facility moving forward.
Speaking of Dorna Sports - that’s no longer the company’s actual name. Dorna is rebranding to MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group as part of its transition under the ownership of Liberty Media, which acquired 86 percent of the series promoter in mid-2025.

 Barcelona stays on F1 calendar in rotational basis with Spa (F1)
In a sign of the time for Formula 1, two regulars on series schedules over the past decade are set to rotate dates going forward.
The facility was left to scrape together a rotational schedule with the Spanish Grand Prix shifting to a new race in Madrid. It will be known as the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix starting this year.
“Barcelona is an incredible city, and the Formula 1 fans there always welcome us with such passion, so I am delighted that we will continue to race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for years to come,” F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali said. “The team have invested heavily in the circuit and hosted fantastic fan festivals in recent years, so we look forward to seeing how they continue to develop the experience, both for attendees at the race and for the city as a whole.
“I would like to thank Salvador Illa, president of the Government of Catalunya, Pol Gibert, CEO of Circuits de Catalunya SL and general secretary of the Department of Business and Employment for their unwavering commitment to hosting Formula 1, and Oriol Sagrera, the former CEO of Circuits de Catalunya SL and former general secretary of the Department of Business and Employment, who was key to securing the renewal. I can’t wait to see our brilliant fans in Barcelona in June!”
Rotating venues has emerged as an option for F1 to keep numerous venues on its schedule amid the tour’s explosion in popularity over the past decade. Spurred on by its unique personalities and the popularity of Netflix’s Drive to Survive, F1 has commanded large crowds around the world while increasing its number of TV viewers along the way. The sport’s growth was enough to convince Apple to fund an F1 movie for 2025 and become the tour’s sole American broadcaster starting this season in a five-year, $750 million deal.

The Chase is back - and with it, so is hardcore points racing. Tyler Reddick carries the early championship advantage after his Daytona 500 win. While that wouldn’t be a big deal in the elimination playoff era, it can foreshadow season-long success in the Chase.
Case in point: The last time a Daytona 500 winner went on to secure the championship was 13 years ago in 2013, the final year of the original non-elimination Chase era. Jimmie Johnson claimed the race and title, scoring the Harley J. Early trophy in Daytona to kick off a six-win, 1,985-lap-leading title campaign ahead of Matt Kenseth and Kevin Harvick.
