So sometime this week I'm hopefully going to be running my first rough
playtest of Dirty Princesses. I'm not sure how well it's going to all
come together, but it should be a good learning experience.

Who has been playtesting so far and what have you gotten out of it?

My playtests have been fruitful - confirming suspicions, raising new
questions and generally giving me the faith to continue on. My
"analysis" of the playtests are on my blog (October 18th and before).
When I was reasonably confident that the basics worked I made the
playtest text available for free on my site and on RPGnow. Since the
16th of last month it has been downloaded 150+ times. I would be happy
if a half-dozen people reply with feedback. Those numbers might sound
poor, but we are talking about a game with zero promotion from a
writer with zero street cred - it would really have to jingle
someone's bells to get a response. In hindsight, I am thinking I might
have been better off selling it for $2 - the fewer people who invested
in it will be more likely to give feedback (the same principle drives
the Ashcan Front). However, an earlier free game, Verge, is still
downloaded 40+ times a month, six months after it's release and has
garnered a reasonable amount of feedback (despite not being solicited
for).
I am going to do nothing on my game for the next month, other than let
it brew in my brain and wait for some feedback. I am participating in
National Novel Writing Month so am busy with that anyway. I will come
back to it in December, and make a decision about the actual setting
details and format of the game. I am happy with the rules as they
stand and think they will need fleshing out with lots of explanation,
but otherwise work.

I sent out seven copies to blind playtesters of my latest game, and they all became suddenly mute and unable to type.

Fuckers.

Maybe they couldn't read it because they were blind playtesters?
