I saw the post about the 25% of the challenge being done already!
That's crazy

For those of you who don't know the New Enterprise Intensive Scheme is
a government program to help start up small businesses. I submitted a
proposal to make a small game development studio, and be small I mean
just me and a few contracted artists, and it was accepted! Over the
past 2 months I've been doing a small business corse and have hardly
worked on my game at all! It's a really condensed coarse and I didn't
have much time for anything else.

So I'm not really sure if I'm ahead or behind, on one hand I now have
a grant witch means I can work full time on my game but quite a bit of
time has already elapsed.

Wow, sounds cool.  You should think about opening it up to other designers, in the sense that one person jumping through the hoop for a bunch can share the costs and the trouble.  It's more efficient than all of us jumping through the same hoop...

Actually, I was thinking the other day that some of you guys might
wont to do the NEIS. I would recommend doing it as a teem if you
could, though strictly speaking you would be going through
individually you would both submit the same business plan. So you
would effectively half your workload. Also that way you would each get
the grant, so you would get 26,000 instead of only 13,000.

I tried to get into NEIS at the beginning of last year, just after I'd
finished a year of study at TAFE, but I had a pair of major hoops to
jump through.

First, I was told that I had to be getting some kind of Centrelink
benefit before I'd be eligible for NEIS.

Second, my wife earns too much money for me to get any kind of
Centrelink benefit.

Which is a shame because I had a business plan all lined up, and I was
really looking forward to the chance of starting up Vulpinoid Studios
as a "legitimate business" rather than just a side hobby.

If you've managed to complete the course and have a NEIS business plan
underway, then that most certainly counts as half the battle won in my
books.

Congratulations.

That's right, I forgot that you had to be on some kind of Centrelink
benifit. Though I don't think you need to have the full amount, even
if it's just a couple of bucks a fortnight you might be able to get
in. Though you might also have to have been on it for 6 months or more
witch would be a real bitch to go through all the rigmarole for just a
couple of bucks per fortnight. I'd ring the local NEIS office and ask
about it. If you can start the NEIS training straight after signing up
for centerlink then that counts as an "approved activity" and you
don't have to jump through the hoops of filling out a job seeker
diary.
