Ok so I have some things that I want to do to help get myself and
others HELLA EXCITED about Dirty Princesses.

- I want a website and have no idea where to start
- A logo for the game would be really kickass. Who can help with this
or who knows someone who can help me with this? Phat lootz may be your
reward
- Heck, I'm already thinking about reaching for some art
- Steve suggested making 'I want to be a Dirty Princess' and I am all
over that idea like a bad rash so that idea is going to become a
kickass reality.

Thanks in advance for the help!

For the website, a great place to start is by writing down what purpose your website has (advertising, information, a place for people to find updates, etc.).  There are too many websites out there which exist only because someone thought it would be a great idea, and eventually the site is crappy.  First step is to decide the purpose.

Once you have that, you can figure out how to make it happen.  It might be enough for you to keep the wordpress site that you have, and get help from graphic artists or web geeks to theme the site for you.  Then again, if you want a fan-based wiki (like the Burning Wheel site*) then you're in for a different kind of exercise.

Getting a logo early can be bad.  You might spend time and money on something that eventually doesn't represent your game.  Or it can be good, providing a focus point for your development.  You'll need to work closely with a designer on this one, with fast turnaround on ideas.  I like to sit at the desk with the designer, blank paper and a pencil.  It has a fast iteration cycle and we end up with a great idea.  For example, at Gencon this year I had every intention of a pull-up banner for the indie games on demand event.  By sitting and talking with my favourite designer (www.markperic.com) we talked it through, both purpose and content, and he suggested the giant D12 on a stick that we eventually built.

I'll be honest and say that a large part of it is me wanting to commit
to it as fully as possible and tell people, so then there are
expectations that will drive me.

Also, I'm giving myself until October 29th to write a first draft and
I need people to harass me about that.

Morning John,
Committing is probably the best/worse thing I ever did in this
STOCKADE project.

If you'd like some help, my background is in Politics and
International studies (well that's what degree said when I graduated)
and I'd be happy to help you get the drafts up and going. Can't help
with the banners though. That's out of my range COMPLETELY and I'm
going to be at the mercy of others here to help overcome that hurdle.
However, if I'm reading this right - you're looking for first draft to
have purpose?

Cheers!
Bev.

I remember when Dirty Princesses was first mentioned on the Forge a
while back.

I remember the inspiration I first felt when I read through the basic
outline of a game that you presented.

I'm glad to see that you're continuing your work on this project.

I have three blogs and a website. My blogs are updated, my website...
not so much. In hind sight I would pay for a hosting package (so you
get an email adress, storage space etc) and load Wordpress on as my
site - it is so easy to use, update and generally use. I hear Go Daddy
is good, but I have used www.webcity.com.au for a few years and never
have a problem.

DO NOT buy art yet. I like to scour the internet for images that fit
the idea / theme / feel of whatever i am writing, set them as my
screen saver and use them as inspiration as I write. I certainly like
the idea of "I want to be a Dirty Princess" - just encourage people to
stick it in their forum signatures! Maybe make a simple banner for
people to use.

That is my 10 cents, anyway.

Great example of how to work with a graphic designer Andrew - and that
d12 looked amazing. The point this illustrates is that it is much more
useful to approach a designer with what you hope to achieve (e.g.
create a visual presence for igod) as opposed to what you think a
design should look like (e.g. I need a pullup banner with igod at the
top).

It's not my challenge game, which I ponder between writing projects, but one
of my co-writing projects is now officially on shelf in Australia.

Gang, UA has an open call at http://www.atlas-games.com/

They want one-sentence pitches.

They have three and only three slots.

I'm in two minds about going for it, because I have a really sweet book I'm
just finally getting to grips with and since I have some flow with it right
now, I don't know that I want to go mucking with it to chase work for
something else, but I knew the "we'll take the first three we like": angle
they have going means the slots will fill fast and I wanted you all to know
that it was open before it closed.

Hay man, unfortunately I don't know much about websites or web
hosting. But I had a look at the webcity site and it looks pretty
cool. I thought I might check it out for paid web hosting when the
time comes.

I've actually started thinking about a logo for my game as well but
I'm going to hold off on paying some one to do the artwork until
things are a little more concrete. So have you thought about what kind
of system you are going with. I seem to recall you were talking about
a group game? What is that exactly?

Anyway, it's good to see you're committed. ^_^
