Heroes of Middle-earth has a more stylized, cartoony version of J.R.R. Tolkien's heroes and world than fans of Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy or the Shadow of War series may be used to. But it's in line with the last game EA's mobile studio Capital Games made, the popular Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. It's a bit more lighthearted art style and calls to mind Vivendi and Sierra's 2003 game based on The Hobbit, which studiously avoided adopting the grimmer realistic look of the films.

Electronic Arts and and its Capital Games studio are launching The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth, a turn-based combat mobile game that follows in the footsteps of Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes.

Perfect for fans on the go, the mobile game features action-packed battles, strategic squad-based gameplay and plenty of customization options rooted in the lore. It requires a persistent internet connection and includes in-game purchases. Monetization is not required of every player, but those who want to spend money on in-game items can do so as they build out their collections.

Malachi Boyle, vice president of mobile RPG and 4X, said in a press briefing that EA has a deep partnership with Middle-earth Enterprises, which holds much of the digital and film rights for The Lord of the Rings and which was recently acquired by The Embracer Group. Boyle said he expects the work to last for many years to come.

EA will release the mobile free-to-play Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth on May 10th, marking its first LOTR game since 2009's The Lord of the Rings: Conquest. It also unveiled the first real trailer, showing gameplay, menus and more. It's one of five LOTR games currently in development from Embracer (which bought the rights last year), including the much anticipated Lord of the Rings: Gollum set to arrive shortly afterwards.

Middle-Earth returns once again with the mobile game The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War. While many of the games set in Middle-Earth have roleplaying elements, this game is about strategy. It is described as a geo-strategic seasonal wargame.

To know what stage a game is in, players can check the season's progress by clicking on their faction icon. It is affected by the entire server. To meet the objectives, players on the server will have to do things like occupy a certain number of tiles, occupying certain types of tiles, or level up rings. The final objective is to occupy Dol Guldur, so each faction will attempt to claim it first and hinder the others from doing so instead. If a faction manages to occupy it, they win the Rise to War campaign.

The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth is an upcoming mobile game being developed by EA Capital Games and published by Electronic Arts. During GameSpot's Mobile Showcase 2022, the developers of the game showed up to reveal a bit of the gameplay for the first time. You can watch the full overview below:

Malachi Boyle, vice president of mobile RPG for EA, commented: We are incredibly excited to partner with The Saul Zaentz Company and Middle-earth Enterprises on the next generation of mobile role-playing games.

In addition to an epic tabletop release, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth arrives on MTG Arena June 20! From the One Ring and the temptation it offers to the story beats and characters we love in The Lord of the Rings, this release brings the same tabletop-Magic-meets-Middle-earth adventure to your PC and mobile phone.

No matter how you slice it, The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War is a perfect example of the greed that plagues mobile gaming. It's pure in-app-purchase-infested garbage. Nothing new for NetEase, but it's still disgusting to see the developer drag the LoTR movies through the mud with this abomination. Of course, if you'd like to take a look to make up your own mind, The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War is free-to-play, so you can install it through the Play Store widget below.

You might be surprised to hear that, unlike other popular franchises like Game of Thrones or Star Wars, there aren't really that many Lord of the Rings games available on mobile phones - this is something it seems Chinese gaming leviathan Netease is hoping to solve with a new title.

A little history lesson. There was a nasty span of years where 'kingdom builder' games tended to be the rage, both for mobile phones and browsers; they're nowadays often referred to as 'Clash of Clans clones', though many predate that watershed title.

This kind of game was a nasty but standard part of mobile gaming for a good few years, and was only superseded when the industry really came into its own with fantastic gaming experiences that didn't exist just to rip you off. Clash of Clans is one of the few titles that bucks the trend by actually being okay to play without paying.

It's disappointing to see Lord of the Rings: Rise to War is that kind of game, especially now that mobile gaming offers such a wide variety of experiences, with developers constantly coming up with new ways to tell stories and entertain on the small screen.

Watching that footage put us off any hope we had off a canonically or thematically faithful adaptation of Tolkein's world; instead, this looks like one of many mobile games we'll studiously avoid. This has made us very uneasy about Netease's recently-announced mobile Frostpunk game, and has us wanting the Lord of the Rings TV show to come along and cleanse our palette.

Electronic Arts announced earlier today that it has partnered with Middle-earth Enterprises, on the development of a new free-to-play mobile game. The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth is a Collectible Role-Playing Game (RPG) that will bring the fantasy and adventure of The Lord of the Rings to existing fans and new audiences alike in a strategic, social-competitive experience.

If this all sounds familiar you probably are playing hero collector mobile games like Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, Marvel Strike Force, or Raid Shadow Legends. Just like those games The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth will feature immersive storytelling, turn-based combat, deep collection systems, and a wide roster of characters from across the vast universe of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Players battle through iconic stories from the world of Tolkien and take up the fight against the great evils of Middle-earth.

Yet another Lord of the Rings game is on the way. Following the new game based on Gollum and Amazon's Lord of the Rings MMO, NetEase and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have announced The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War. A mobile strategy game, Rise to War is set in the Third Age of Middle-earth.

The high-duty adhesive can be reapplied over 100 times without wear. Unlike other phone rings, it can be easily detached, washed, and repositioned as needed! Available in two sizes: GRIPMINI and GRIPMAX.

The Battle of Rohan is one of the most iconic of the Lord of the Rings films and will have stuck in the memory of many fans. And now you can enjoy it in first person like never before for free on your mobile device thanks to Middle Earth: Battle for Rohan.

The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War is a strategy game released for mobile devices by Netease Games Global. As the name suggests, it is based on the popular Lord of the Rings trilogy. It will feature locations and creatures introduced in the novel and movie franchise.
