Option 4 does everything for you. Your environment needs to be properly configured to allow this. Option 2 requires you to download the extension to your PC. Option 3 requires you to unzip and move the folders/files to your webserver. All options require that the webserver has write access to the webspace.

Go from tab 'Install' to tab 'Manage', set the 'Type' filter to 'Template'. The installed template should appear in the list. If it does, the template is properly installed. Now you can assign one of styles to a menu item or set the style as default. For Administrator templates make sure you have two windows of the template manager. Activate the new template in one of them and reset it in the other one if something went wrong.

Templates can also be installed via FTP without packaging them. Simply select the template folder on your PC and upload it to your server, using your favourite FTP software. Be sure you upload the template folder to the directory: /path_to_joomla/templates/ - where /path_to_joomla/ is the location of your Joomla! installation on the server. This method is mostly used when you have created a template yourself, and do not want to have to package it to install the template, or if you want to upload more than one template at once. You must then go into Extension manager and click on Discover in the sub menu. Click on "Discover" in the toolbar if your template doesn't immediately appear. A list of uninstalled items in the FTP should then appear. Click the checkbox to the left of your template and click on the button 'Install'.

Note: Do not try to use FTP to install Components, Modules and Plugins if you are a beginner/novice. These items need database entries which have to be inserted manually if you bypass the package installer.

Today we are in the second article of our long series of Joomla Basics. If you are new to Joomla, and facing trouble understanding how the core stuff work, today's tutorial is for you to get a grasp on how to install a fresh Joomla template on your site.

Talking about content customization, did you know high-quality images help to convert leads? High-quality images create trust between your business and your clients, increase user engagement, decrease bounce rate, and earn more views to your site.

I am experimenting with Joomla 3.1.4. Whenever I add a new module the template does not show at all in the front-end. The site is blank. On disabling the new module it starts showing properly again. Even a basic hello world type of module does not seem to work and nor does a third party extension I have tried. I can see them in the extension manager and in the module manager and they have installed successfully. Frustrated with all this I decided to install a new 3.1 template which too installed successfully. However this template does not show anything in the front-end either with my module enabled. It almost seems that there is some sort of security restriction which is disabling the template from rendering whenever any change is made to the basic installation. Can someone please give pointers to resolving this odd behaviour.

Note that some templates like the one shown in the screenshot above require a plugin to be installed (In this case, the T3 plugin). In order to be able to properly configure your theme, remember to download and install the required plugin(s) before uploading your template.

The content management system Joomla lets users easily customize the design of their website with templates. Whether you choose to place the files directly in your Joomla directory structure or opt for the more convenient option of installing the template in the backend, all the methods for installing templates in Joomla are straightforward.

Joomla templates give users the possibility to customize the design and layout of their Joomla-powered websites. There is a wide range of templates available and once you decide on a template, all you need to do is install it. When it comes to installing templates, there are various methods to choose from:

With Joomla extensions, you can expand the functionality and design of your website. These are not necessarily always templates in the traditional sense of the word. Often, they are tools that make it easier for you to create a custom website.

To install an extension from the web, navigate to System > Extensions > Install in the navigation bar and select the option Install from Web. In the window that opens, you can search for an extension that you would like to use. Once you have found one, click on the green Install button.

Another way to add compressed templates to a Joomla website is to upload the templates as a package file. To do this, navigate to System > Extensions > Install and select the option for uploading the package file from the navigation bar. To upload the template, simply drag and drop it into the designated area. Alternatively, you can click the green button and choose a file from your directory structure.

After installing the template, you can check whether the installation was successful by clicking on Manage Extensions. Using the filtering options from the menu that opens, you can filter the list so that only templates are displayed. The template you just installed should appear in the list.

Joomla templates are basically the shell of your site. They are comprised of a series of files that determine the look and feel of a site once your content and modules have been put into place. A template determines things like fonts, colors, menu styles, navigation controls, basic layout design, and certain images such as the header and background (in some cases). A template is not an entire website in and of itself at all. It is more accurately described as a base on which your site's appearance and layout are formed.
