During Lent in DC there are many opportunities at the Cathedral, and across the Archdiocese, to continue our Lenten journey in fellowship with others -- and to deepen our own personal relationship with our Lord. New weekly series continues Sunday, March 22 – following 5:30 Mass – Cathedral
Looking for a quick and easy way to deepen your spirituality and learn more about your faith during Lent? Join Br. Gabriel, Br. We will have back-to-back Thursday Suppers thanks to the timing of Holy Thursday! All young adults and fellow foodies are encouraged to join us for a special edition of our monthly supper club following the 5:30 PM Mass celebrated by Cardinal Wuerl. We will meet in the back of the Cathedral after Mass and walk together to a nearby restaurant. C†YA Lenten Afternoon of Reflection
Sunday, March 22 - 2:30 to 5:30 PM - Cathedral West Conference Room
Join us for an afternoon to focus and guide your Lenten preparations as we draw closer to Holy Week. Fr. Colm Mannion, an Irish Dominican priest, will lead us in our reflection and hear confessions. The afternoon will also include time for personal reflection and prayer. We will conclude in time for the 5:30 PM Mass. Meet other Young Adults after the 1:00 PM Spanish Mass

Twice a month, a group will meet after the 1 PM Mass to study Scripture, perform service, or enjoy fellowship together! The group meets in Spanish and/or English, depending on the needs of those present. The Cathedral Young Adults continue our monthly discussion series in April at Scion! We will be discussing the papal encyclical Evangeli Nuntiandi (On Evangelization in the Modern World) by Pope Paul VI. No prior knowledge of the encyclical is required, we look forward to seeing you for a lively discussion!

Mark your calendars for the C+YA Spring Retreat 2015: May 30-31, 2015 at Bellarmine Retreat Center in Waynesboro PA. The theme is “Finding God in All Things”. There will be time for quiet personal prayer, small groups, hiking, mass, and making friends! More details to come.

Weekly on Sundays – 5:30 PM – Cathedral (meet in section near front by the choir)
Don’t sit alone at Mass! Instead, celebrate with other young adult parishioners. Please join us in our section in the first few rows on the right of the nave, in front of the pulpit near the choir – look for the “reserved” signs on the pews. Then stick around to meet everyone after Mass!

C†YA at the Catholic Charities Youth Transitional Program
Saturday, April 11 – 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM – 801 East Men's Shelter (2700 MLK Blvd. SE / Anacostia)
The Catholic Charities Youth Transitional Program is a residential rehab program for young men ages 18-24. Join us for a rewarding morning of fun activities and facilitated interaction designed to help the guys develop valuable social and professional skills. A quick volunteer sign up is required. C†YA at the Northwest Center

The Northwest Center provides support and comprehensive care that enables women to deliver and care for healthy babies. The Cathedral Young Adults get together each month to sort donations or do odd jobs around the Center.

C†YA for a Single Serving of Service with the Casey Tree Foundation
Saturday, March 28 – 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM – Sousa Middle School (3650 Ely Rd SE/)
This month’s Single Serving of Service is a partnership with the Casey Tree Foundation to plant 45 trees at Sousa Middle School in SE DC (just north of Fort Dupont Park). We have 8 slots reserved for Cathedral volunteers, and you need to sign up here (under St. Matthew’s Cathedral Group) by March 14 to reserve your spot! There is plenty of parking available on site, and we will coordinate transportation as a group. Light breakfast and a celebratory lunch will be provided for volunteers -- reserve your spot today! Ongoing Opportunities at the Cathedral
∙ Homeless Ministry: Volunteers are needed to prepare bagged lunches for the poor and homeless who come to the St. Matt’s West Conference Room each Monday morning for food and social services. Contact Olivia or Norma if you would like to provide lunches once a month, every other month, or as a one-time service.
∙ Serve as a Liturgical Minister at the Cathedral: The Cathedral is in need of liturgical ministers at all Masses, including weekday Masses. Ministers of hospitality (greeters), ushers, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, and servers are especially needed. The suggested commitment is one Sunday per month. Other Individual Volunteer Opportunities in DC
· You can find additional volunteer opportunities through Catholic Charities using their volunteer portal.
· The Northwest Center seeking Spanish-speaking (both fluent and proficient) volunteers for the pregnancy center’s Step Up program. Pro-life volunteers sought to undergo counseling training with the agency and provide assistance to Spanish-speaking pregnant and parenting women and families through referrals to community resources as well as material assistance. · The San Miguel School of Washington DC is launching a young professionals advisory group. San Miguel DC is a Lasallian Catholic middle school serving low-income families by providing a 9 hour school day (until 5pm) and a year-round schedule with small class sizes and intensive tutoring. We continue to provide support to over 170 graduates in high school, college, and the workforce. If you are interested in Catholic education, Catholic Social Teaching's preferential option for the poor, or urban education--this is the group for you! · Feeling called to service leadership? Catholic Charities is recruiting a group of energetic reliable volunteers to serve on the Hope Corps Volunteer Committee. Members of this committee would serve as liaisons between Catholic Charities staff, volunteers, and populations served by their events. The mission of the Cathedral young adult ministry is to support the community of Catholic adults in their 20’s and 30’s who live and work in DC in the continued growth of their faith, discernment of their vocations, and development as stewards of the Church through opportunities for socializing, community service and spiritual reflection.
