Mardis Gras Pancake Party!

Sunday, February 7 – beginning at 9 AM & following all Masses – Cathedral North Conference Room

Mark your calendars! The Pancake Party is back again this year! The Cathedral Young Adults invite you to a Mardi Gras Pancake Party on Sunday, February 7th!  All are invited to this pre-lenten celebration of community, fellowship, and good food! Join your parish family for pancakes, sausage, fruit, coffee, tea & juice in the North Conference Room after Mass beginning at 9am. At the door, tickets will be $10.  All proceeds will benefit C†YA and the Social Justice & Community Services Committee. We hope to see you there! True Identity in Christ Young Adult Retreat

Friday, January 15 - Sunday, January 17 - Saint John Paul II National Shrine (3900 Harewood Road NE / Brookland)
Start the New Year with a YA retreat on our True Identity in Christ in DC Jan 15-17.  Join other young adults across the Archdiocese of Washington Jan. 15-17 at the St. John Paul II Shrine for a retreat featuring: conferences by Dominican priests, small group reflections, Eucharistic Adoration and confession, daily time for personal prayer, healing blessings, Saturday daily Mass and Sunday Mass, etc.  This retreat is not overnight, we will reconvene at the JPII Shrine each morning. Men of the Cathedral are invited to join the Armory Men’s Group to watch and discuss “Priest, Prophet, King”, a study program by Bishop Robert Barron. Join us for conversation, fellowship, and to grow as men as we reflect on Christ as the ultimate priest, prophet, and king, and how our mission to follow Him shapes our lives as men. Wine and Wisdom

C†YA at the Northwest Center 
Tuesday, January 12 - 6 to 8 PM – Northwest Center (2702 Ontario Road NW / Columbia Heights)
The Northwest Center provides support and comprehensive care that enables women to deliver and care for healthy babies.  The Cathedral Young Adults get together each month to sort donations or do odd jobs around the Center.

Making Lunches for Homeless Ministry
Sunday, January 31 - 6:30 PM - Cathedral West Conference Room
Join us after the 5:30 Mass to help prepare bag lunches that will be given out to the poor and homeless in our neighborhood on Monday morning.  The St. Matthew’s Social Justice and Community Service Committee makes breakfasts and lunches to distribute each week in addition to providing social services and other necessities to our guests. Many hands make light work!

C†YA at the Catholic Charities Youth Transitional Program
Saturday, February 6 – 10 AM to 12:30 PM – 801 East Men’s Shelter (2700 MLK Blvd. SE / Anacostia)
After a short break due to the Christmas and New Year’s holiday, we will be back at YTP this February!  The Catholic Charities Youth Transitional Program is a residential rehab program for young men ages 18-24. Join us for a rewarding morning of fun activities and facilitated interaction designed to help the guys develop valuable social and professional skills. We need several volunteers each month, but you’re welcome to try it out once or come as often as you’re able!  You can take the Metro and/or buses to the Shelter, but we will do our best to coordinate carpools.

Service Opportunities at the Cathedral


Serve as a Liturgical Minister at the Cathedral: The Cathedral is in need of liturgical ministers at all Masses, including weekday Masses. Ministers of hospitality (greeters), ushers, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, and servers are especially needed. The suggested commitment is one Sunday per month. Contact Deacon Garcia (james.anth...@gmail.com) for more information on expectations and training.     

   

Homeless Ministry: Volunteers are needed to prepare bagged lunches for the poor and homeless who come to the St. Matt’s West Conference Room each Monday morning for food and social services. Contact Olivia or Norma if you would like to provide lunches once a month, every other month, or as a one-time service.

Cathedral Young Adults Mission

The mission of the Cathedral young adult ministry is to support the community of Catholic adults in their 20’s and 30’s who live and work in DC in the continued growth of their faith, discernment of their vocations, and development as stewards of the Church through opportunities for socializing, community service and spiritual reflection.
