Wine and Wisdom

Saturday, December 5 – 7 PM to 11 PM St. Matthew’s Cathedral
Light The City is a one-night evening of prayer and personal invitation on Saturday night, December 5. Volunteer training will take place from 7-8 PM. Following training, teams of volunteers will go out into the streets of DC’s Dupont Circle neighborhood to invite passers-by to come into the Cathedral to light a candle and pause peacefully in prayer amid the business of a night in the city. The Cathedral will be filled with candles, music, and quiet prayer with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Light a candle, sit in personal prayer, go to confession, or talk with a priest. We will close the evening with a final blessing at midnight. All are invited to volunteer or to come light a candle and pray for our city at any point in the evening. Advent Afternoon of Reflection

Capital Area Food Bank

SOME Thanksgiving Day Trot for Hunger

A team of St. Matthew’s Cathedral parishioners and friends will be starting their Thanksgiving Day by participating in the SOME (So Others Might Eat) Thanksgiving Trot for Hunger. Proceeds from this 5K run/walk benefit thousands of homeless families and single adults by providing much-needed food, clothing and healthcare. Lunch Preparation for the Homeless Ministry
Sunday, November 29 – 6:30 PM to 7 PM – Cathedral
Wrap up your Thanksgiving Day long weekend by helping the Homeless Ministry wrap up lunches for our homeless neighbors. Volunteers will gather in the West Conference Room after the 5:30 PM Mass to prepare sandwiches and to fill brown bags. No RSVP is required, please feel free to stop in after Mass.
C†YA at the Catholic Charities Youth Transitional Program
Saturday, December 5 –10 AM to 12:30 PM – 801 East Men’s Shelter (2700 MLK Blvd. SE / Anacostia)
Volunteering with the YTP is back! The Catholic Charities Youth Transitional Program is a residential rehab program for young men ages 18-24. Join us for a rewarding morning of fun activities and facilitated interaction designed to help the guys develop valuable social and professional skills. We need several volunteers each month, but you’re welcome to try it out once or come as often as you’re able! You can take the Metro and/or buses to the Shelter, but we will do our best to coordinate carpools. Contact Carolyn (cewa...@gmail.com) with questions. Click here to register with Catholic Charities. The Northwest Center provides support and comprehensive care that enables women to deliver and care for healthy babies. The Cathedral Young Adults get together each month to sort donations or do odd jobs around the Center.

Service Opportunities at the Cathedral
Serve as a Liturgical Minister at the Cathedral: The Cathedral is in need of liturgical ministers at all Masses, including weekday Masses. Ministers of hospitality (greeters), ushers, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, and servers are especially needed. The suggested commitment is one Sunday per month. Contact Deacon Garcia (james.anth...@gmail.com) for more information on expectations and training.
Homeless Ministry: Volunteers are needed to prepare bagged lunches for the poor and homeless who come to the St. Matt’s West Conference Room each Monday morning for food and social services. Contact Olivia or Norma if you would like to provide lunches once a month, every other month, or as a one-time service.

They provide representative perspectives on key issues facing the parish in order to develop a strategic vision for the parish. Cathedral Young Adults Mission
The mission of the Cathedral young adult ministry is to support the community of Catholic adults in their 20’s and 30’s who live and work in DC in the continued growth of their faith, discernment of their vocations, and development as stewards of the Church through opportunities for socializing, community service and spiritual reflection.
