Please see the message below.  It is a very inspiring and encouraging message from a correctional officer at the Travis County Jail where I first participated in a program utilizing restorative justice principles and processes.

BELOW IS A  POWERFUL  EMAIL

Prison correctional officers see these men on a daily basis, know all their games and manipulation tactics, and know when they see REAL change.  Contrary to BTL core belief, many prison guards do not believe change is possible for men who are incarcerated.  Coming from a prison guard, this is extremely meaningful.

Subj: Message from a Prison Guard

Mr. Sage,

I'm a Corrections Officer with the Travis County Sheriff's Office.  Within the Sheriff's Office we have a program known as RAVE (Resolve to Abolish Violence Everyday).  The program is based off Bridges to Life and uses Bridges to Life text and study guide.  I use to believe "lock them up and throw away the key". But I've seen first hand the changes that some of these inmates in the program have made.  I have been tasked with creating a unit that will house the inmates in the RAVE and the Bridges To Life program.  I am doing my best to create an environment that will help in instilling the goals of Bridges to Life.  In fact I am working on a different way of dealing with these inmates.  Please, if you have anything that can help I will greatly appreciate it.  Thank you for taking the time to read my message and for the great contribution that Bridges to Life has brought to the Criminal Justice System and our society.

Sincerely,
Steven V.
