Guys, if we don't already have a speaker for May, I locked Bill Edney
down for the May meeting on Saturday. The topic will be CSS from a
programmer's perspective. This continues our theme of separating
concerns (biz logic from view logic from presentation). First MVC,
then HAML, then JQuery. To effectively use these techniques, you
should have at least a working knowledge of CSS. For instance, jQuery
relies heavily on CSS selectors to return wrapped object lists. Haml
uses CSS similar names and SASS is all about CSS.

Bill is the co-founder of Technical Pursuit and co-author of the Tibet
framework a Javascript client library that is X-browser and 100% web
standards conformant. So he knows a lot about browser compabitbilty
issues wrt to JS and CSS. Bill is probably one of the top Javascript
experts globally. His talks are always well done and very popular. I
think we can do some cross list advertising for him. The Web users
group, the Java groups, the XP users group and all of the *nix ones,
and even the C#/.Net ones.

Sounds great!

And for April, we'll have Ed Howland discussing rspec plain text stories!

It's going to be some great meetings!

I may have gotten the month wrong for Bill. I will confirm with him.
He is going to Egypt on one of these months April or May. If it is
May, then is June open for him?

Yes, currently it is open. I was planning on doing a recap of Rails Conf 2008 in June, but I can certainly move that back a month if necessary.

Still waiting to hear back from Bill.

Will advise.

I spoke to Bill the other day. He said that he'd be in Egypt in May,
and won't be able to make the May meeting. He said the June meeting
would be OK.

Ed or Craig,

Could one of you or anyone that sees Bill find out if we could have him come in July so that we could do a RailsConf recap in June?

We definitely want to hear his presentation, but so that we don't forget as much about RailsConf, those of us attending could probably have a better chance of remembering what we saw and learned  in June than July.

So if he would be willing to shift to July, that would help us (and my aging memory :-)

I know he was traveling, so just let me know when you can and we'll update the calendar.

I just talked to Bill. He said that the July meeting would be fine for
his CSS presentation.

Has he returned from the valley of the kings? The land of the
pharaohs? The plains of the nile?
