Greetings all,

I thought I would share Saturday’s ride with you.  As usual, I took off from my house and headed into the country.  But this time I was headed to roads unknown.  What was supposed to be a 45 mile loop turned into a 32 mile out and back, at 16 miles I hit heavy gravel in all forward directions.  Ah, such are the fortunes of a pioneer!  Here is the route of my journey:  http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/241529673

I had the chance to test my ICE trike at speed on a couple of the downhills, and there are no words for how much better this trike handles at speed than either of its predecessors, an early Catrike Road and Terratrike Path.  Once I felt how stable it was I started pushing it a bit.  31.4mph and begging for more.  Yahoo!  Give me a fast hill, good road and no turns, and I’m rocking like Aerosmith!

A hearty thanks to Jeff Kline for making trikes available to the group for the best price ever!  I hope to see y’all sporting your new rides sometime soon!

                What’s everybody else up to?

That's awesome, Mark. It's great that you have such a nice rural setting to explore.

Sweet! Which model ICE trike do you have? How do you like the front suspension?

I have a 2006 "Trice-T" (no front suspension). It's the first and only trike I've ever owned. There were no recumbent dealers near me at the time, so I ordered it directly from the manufacturer in the UK. Anyway, I know what you mean about stability. My personal speed record is 50 mph. The cool thing is that I wasn't even spinning the cranks! (Hooray for gravity!) The downhill ride was smooth and rock solid - a bit like being in a little sports car.   :-D

I'm overhauling my trike at the moment, so it won't be rideable for a bit.

Mine is a Trice XLNT that I bought used from a lady in Quincy.  When I saw what she was selling I gave her the money before she changed her mind!  She was actually a savvy and accomplished cyclist, she was just ready to move on to an inline recumbent.  Darn the luck.

Lucky you!

I actually prefer the "older" swing-arm style to the newer design. The simple arc means that the chain never slaps the frame - even on rugged terrain. Of course everything else about the newer design is the cat's meow (folding frame, front suspension), but I have no need or desire to upgrade currently.

Anyway, I wish you lots of fun miles on your Trice!

I forgot to mention this is an older unsuspended model.

There is a guy on BROL that owns a rare Trice Micro. He recently was returning from a trip when a deer clipped the side of his car with it's antlers. Somehow it knocked the trike off of his hitch rack and it hit the interstate. Trike seems to be destroyed. Naturally he is sick over loosing such a rare trike.
