You would need to define a composite where the proportions of the two materials is a formula that depends on the (x y z) coordinates. The formula should generate 0.5 at the center and 1.0 at the edges.
Then you would use the formula to specify the value of one material, and "1 minus the formula" to specify the proportion of the second material.
For example, if the object was a sphere of radius 1 centered around coordinate 0,0,0 then the formula would be something like sqrt(x*x+y*y+z*z)/2+0.5
