FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 7, 2008
Grain Valley, MO - On April Fools Day, the Association of Community
Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) accused the MoCRI of "fraud,"
trying to play the media and Missouri voters for fools while knowing
full well their own employees had plead guilty to voter fraud. It's
true; federal prosecutors announced eight ACORN employee convictions the
very next day. St. Louis election officials have said they have had
problems with ACORN submissions in past years.
"How can anyone take accusations seriously from a group that has a
record of election fraud, not only in Missouri but around the nation?"
asks Tim Asher, Executive Director of the Missouri Civil Rights
Initiative. "ACORN workers have been convicted of election fraud. By
accusing MoCRI of like behavior they are hoping to divert attention away
from their own record. If they repeat the lie accusing MoCRI behaving
like ACORN long enough and loud enough, they hope the truth will be
obscured."

This is why I am amused that we feel we have the right to bomb other
nations to inflict democracy on them. Our present voting system is
broke and they refuse to fix it , because it serves it's purpose for
either side. Even when other countries do vote and we do not like who
they vote for, we have the gall to criticize them. Which I feel is
why 50% of American citizens do not even bother to vote. We have been
told all our life what a sacred privilege it is. However we have the
"best government that money can buy." I vote, but I understand
completely why others don't bother. I sure in the hell can't tell
them "their vote counts".
Hey, podner! Watch where you put your pronouns! You spattered some of
that "we" on me. I've been opposed to a U.S. empire even before the end
of Cold War I.
The original Cold War had the disadvantage that everyone could tell when
it was over. Iron Curtain gets porous; people leave for the West in
droves, and there's no stopping them. The Berlin Wall comes down, as
souvenirs. East German government collapses. Soviet Union gone. No
Soviet-bloc country remains a single-party Communist nation.
Game over. Evil Empire lost.
But Cold War II (aka "The War On Terror") will never be over. There's
no way to tell if it's over or not, or even if "we're winning". So the
intrusions into our lives and the meddling in other countries must
continue, even intensify. If they don't, "the terrorists win".
McCarthyism isn't dead, it just keeps changing clothes. That's because
it's not a political point of view, it's a tactic: name-calling to
excite emotions and prevent thought -- and demonize the target.
"Playing the race card" is one form of it. Just saying "dirty commie"
or "fellow traveler" in a different set of threads. (Let's see if
anybody rises to the bait and provides us an example.)
It's as permanent as so-called "Affirmative Action" -- to return to the
original subject of this thread. -Eric
