My neice wants a used laptop and I'm looking for suggestions.
I've heard of Computer Renaissance, but have heard some horror stories about
them, though not in the last couple of years. Any other places? (South County)

Just needs a PII/PIII that will run XP and have a modem, maybe a NIC if she gets
DSL.

Thanks!

Try EPC. they are on the opposite side of I-70 (sort of cattycorner)
from Computer Renaissance (CR). They also sell online at www.epsusa.com and
they have links to some Ebay auctions they run for a variety of computers
systems and parts.

There is also another used computer shop about a 1/2 mile east of CR on
Mexico Road across the street from Lion's Choice, in a strip mall.

Make sure, though, that you have a good idea what new ones sell for.
The prices keep dropping, and sometimes people too much for an
older unit because they don't know. You can use Dell as a benchmark.

We have two daughters in college, bought both laptops this past year and
didn't spend $250 on either; eBay refurbished lease returns. All with
ethernet, CD-ROM's, decent memory and decent drive space.

I'd skip the used laptops and just buy a refurbished one from someone
like TigerDirect.com. Lots of good deals and you'll get a much better
machine that will still be usable in a couple years.
