Search for Chemical Bond Editor

Our ACS Local Section is searching for a new editor for its Chemical Bond newsletter which appears 9 times per year (not from June-August). The position involves receiving articles and announcements from the Local section officers, seminar announcements from local universities, and some ads from advertisers and then assembling them into a PDF file to be sent to our printer (Messenger Printing in Kirkwood). Back issues of the Chemical Bond can be viewed on the local section webpage (http://www.stlacs.org) The printed copy is then mailed out to our appx. 1800 members by our mailer (Saint Louis Pre-Sort). The editor must be able to learn to make use of software for producing a newsletter style PDF file, such as Adobe Pagemaker. The editor sets a deadline for receiving items for each months issue and is responsible for sending the PDF file to Messenger Printing by a set date (there is flexibility, but only of a few days either way) so that it reaches the members in time for the announcements of upcoming events and articles to still be relevant. Our present editor is stepping down, and we are in search of a replacement. Ideally, the new editor will be a computer savvy individual with good software skills. Access to high speed internet (DSL, etc) is necessary to be successful. The new editor will take possession of the local section laptop PC and copy of Adobe Pagemaker. The commitment to become editor should be for at least 12 months starting in early 2009 or sooner. The previous editor will be available to help a new editor get started. Just to be clear, this is a volunteer position as are all positions in the local ACS.
