I noticed there's a lot of people who are on the mailing list and wine club invites who've never been to a meeting. Why? What's your apprehension? Feel free to reply here or ask questions or email me directly... stlwi...@gmail.com

I'll hit a couple of things people have said to me in the past:
  • Gosh, it seems like I have to bring a lot of stuff. (wine, glass, notes, snack, plates, etc) Why?
Two reasons really. The notes are to make sure we all learn about the wine - the themes and price range are set for a good learning environment. The rest of the stuff is to lesson the burden on the host. Since meetings are held at member's homes, we want to make it as easy on them as possible. You don't have to bring a snack - but know that most people do and so if you don't bring something you probably shouldn't munch on someone else's. ;)
  • I don't know anything about wine. Are you guys wine snobs?
No, we're not. The reason we have notes is so you don't have to "know" anything and you can just read info from the website. Yes, there are some of us who know more about wine than others. (frankly, because we drink more than others!! :) But the set up is geared towards learning, so don't be intimidated. The only way to learn more about wine is to drink it!

  • Is the whole meeting uber wine-serious?
Ha, not even close. We refer to it as a "wine mullet" - wine business up front and then party in the back. We taste wine, read notes, then move on to the next one. Once we're done sampling an ounce of each wine, then it's a free for all. Grab a small glass of your favorite and chat it up with the people around you, or you can leave when we're done sampling - it's up to you.

  • Are you guys all friends?
Some of us already know each other quite well, but we didn't start out that way. Almost all the the regulars from wine club are people that met at wine club. So don't let that stop you from coming. We love wine and love meeting new people who love wine!

Want to stop getting emails and invites? Unsubscribe here on the list then email me to ask me to remove you from invites.

Okay, so my husband and I moved to the area (Alton, IL) last fall from Eastern WA (too bad we missed the WA wine meeting), and am thinking this might be a good group for us as long as meetings are NOT on fridays since I work late that day.

How do I join the group other than what I just did here?

Jenn
