Some of you might’ve noticed the invites came from a different source
this month – the ones for the 18th came from Google Calendar and the
ones for the 24th came from Anyvite. Socializr is moving over to
Punchbowl and they have too many limitations unless you buck up and
pay and I’m still not a fan of evite, so I wanted to try something
new.
Alas, the Google calendar was a flop so I’ll likely delete it. If you
do want to go to the one on the 18th, please email me directly and
I’ll manually keep tabs.
Anyvite looks pretty good – nice, simple and it is a bit more mobile
friendly and has RSS feeds if you want to keep track of events.
(although you can see the event title, you can’t see the details
unless you’re invited, thus keeping a little bit of tabs on the
privacy aspect) So, while it seems to be a winner, feel free to let me
know your thoughts as we evaluate a new solution and thanks for your
patience.
If you didn't get an invite for either the 18th or 24th, please let me
know.
General reminders:
• We need hosts for April (or if you want to get on the schedule for
any month, let me know, the more ahead we plan the better it'll be-
these next few months will be a bit hectic, as we're likely moving.)
• The 2012 wine club themes are up on the website (http://
stlwineclub.com/Meetinginformation.html#Meeting_Schedule)
• March, April & May are all old world friendly months, so I recommend
looking ahead for internet based deals - the in-town selection in the
price range is a bit sparse, and there's been several deals I've seen
lately on WineShopper (
http://www.wineshopper.com/invites/cedwards3)
WineWoot, WinesTillSoldOut and other sites that would be good to take
advantage of now, to both try something new and avoid duplicates at
the meetings.
• Speaking of avoiding duplicates, please try to update your RSVP with
what you're bringing, even if it's just the type of wine. I personally
try to fill in gaps so we don't always RSVP but it makes it easier for
people to fill in gaps if they know where the gaps are. It will only
expand our variety!
• Anyone who wants to put together a pairing or vertical dinner, let
me know. We have one we're probably going to plan (a Chianti vertical)
but several people have verticals they want to share, so get with me
to get on the calendar before summer.
