I'll probably try this out this weekend. Post here if you try it.

I'd be careful with that... I've heard mixed things about the "unrevoked" methods.

They lost me about halfway through the article. The stop talking about 2.2, and every mention of the version says you will now have "2.1" on your phone.

Does this technique unlock 2.2, or does it revert your phone back to 2.1?

They also don't mention if you'll stop seeing forward locked apps from the Android Market.

It's just too sloppy and disorganized for me to risk screwing up my phone.

I rooted my myTouch 3G Slide with the "SLIDEMEROOT2" image and it
reverted to pre-OTA but all the apps work fine. Of course that's a
different animal since it's (still) 2.1. I didn't want to mess with
CM6 since I mainly just wanted wifi tether. Once (if) 2.2 comes out
for the Slide I'm hoping they will allow wifi tether in the stock
image. Probably not, though.

For the record, the CM6 is very nice. Since it's an AOSP rom you shouldn't need to worry about device specific 2.2 updates unless I'm missing something.

I'd be concerned about e.g. losing Swype and other custom apps. It
sounds kind of sad but the T-Mobile My Account app is nice to have
too. I guess you could copy those over from the stock ROM but it'd be
a bit complicated and they might not work quite right on 2.2. So
unless it looks like there will be no other upgrade path I'm going to
hold off on it for now.
